Does anyone know a surefire way to sync from desktop to mobile? I somehow always manage to mess it up. Specifically, I am talking about when I import new info into a deck that I already use. I do this on my laptop, then sync, and then open it on my android phone and sync there but something always goes wrong! Often times it simply won’t download the new stuff and from there it’s hell trying to figure it out. Today I had to use a backup from two days ago and make a new deck with it. ouch. :/
Anyway I couldn’t find a step by step way to do it anywhere. Ugh. And of course I tried google and even google searching this forum but found nothing specific enough.
PS I think we should have an ANKI category in these forums. :) These topics come up often so at least we could easily browse them in one section.

=^..^=April 16, 2012 at 7:20 pm #29531It should be pointed out that Damien Elmes, the person who created anki and the anki app for iOS, was not involved in the creation of the Ankidroid app. As I don’t have an android phone, I can’t offer specific help but as I understand there are a few issues that have been fairly persistent. You may want to check here for a fix or a workaround.
April 17, 2012 at 2:37 pm #29645You haven’t gone into too much detail about how you’re having problems, so it’s a bit hard to give advice.
I use a kind of syncing system to try and avoid issues. I usually do all my reviews on my Android. So I wake up and clear out all my reviews that are due (throughout the day or however long it takes), and when everything is done I “sync all”. Only then will I open AnkiPC (which auto syncs on start-up) and make any additions/deletions to my decks. When I’m finished tending to my decks for the day (usually at night just before I turn off my computer) I sync my PC again (before turning off Anki), then I “sync all” on my Android, making sure that the correct number of cards comes across (to make sure there are no issues), and then shut down PC Anki.
I haven’t had a problem in a while. Before, sometimes one side would sync to Ankiweb, the other side would say it is synced, but it wouldn’t be, no matter how many times you synced. When that happens it’s easiest just to delete the deck on the troubled device (PC or Ankidroid, AFTER checking that Ankiweb is correct) and then re-downloading from Ankiweb (a 2min process total once you know what you’re doing).
Hopefully that answered your question?
