So after much contemplation and debate and having finished the first season rather quickly (quicker than I was expecting and hoping for), I decided to just go ahead and become a member.  I really want to learn Japanese and Textfugu has helped me a lot in doing that.  I looked around the internet a lot for other guides (free ones) to helping me, but Textfugu was the one that got me over the hump.

Before I get to why I want to learn Japanese, I guess I should say a few things about myself: I prefer to be called Vaughn.  I’m a writer.  I’m a college student.  I’m the admin of my own forum (which focuses on scary stories).  I have a lot of projects I’m trying to do, but I hardly ever finish anything (I’m hoping my learning will be different).  This post will either be the only thing I say on here or if I do post more, none of those will be nearly as long.

Now for my reasons: 1. I want to one day visit (or even live in) Japan, and I’d like to be able to understand the language.  I know a lot of people speak English over there, but that’s not an excuse to not learn something new.  2. I feel like I am limiting myself by only knowing one language.  I’d like to at least know two, and I like the idea of learning Japanese rather than Spanish or French.  3. I have an online friend who knows Japanese, and if I meet them in person some day, I’d like us to be able to have a conversation in Japanese.

So there.  That’s me in a nutshell (figuratively).  Wuttup, Textfugu-people.

Vaughn – Welcome and good luck with your studies! If you make a commitment to Japanese, I’m sure you’ll be able to stick with it. :)
