Yesjapan.com is another Japanese learning site that is pretty great. I have one of their books but I mostly use the site for the chatroom, it’s really good for practicing talking with people, and there’s always a mod who’s advanced in the language to answer a question. I usually just sit in the chat while studying so I can start using new vocab in sentences with them to solidify the memorization or to ask about grammar points that I’m having trouble with. The owner of the site also does live streams on Japanese topics once in a while, which are definitely a nice treat.
You can just go on Pandora, I found out about L’arc en Ciel by loving Great Teacher Onizuka (anime) and so I made a L’arc en Ciel station on Pandora and found Gackt and Mucc through there. Another good site is shoutcast.com where you can listen to tons of free live radio, just search “Japanese” and a ton of stations pop up, I’m currently listening to a 70′s-90′s Japanese pop station.
Thanks for the reply, and I look forward to any words of wisdom you may provide. I haven’t learned any of the kanji, and just been answering the assignments straight from my notes (taking the class online) and I’m realizing that I really need to learn these, just the kanji chart is terrible though.
P.S. read your thread about Anki 2 while looking for any threads with my answer before I posted, and though it didn’t have the answer to my question it was very helpful, so thank you for that.
That would make sense, the Japanese guy told me that it’s okay to use it and it’s understood because even though you’re implying that you don’t like something else, it doesn’t imply what that something else is, and of course everyone has to dislike something, so it’s kind of just ignored anyway? Either way he said with the が was more natural, not sure if you’ve noticed either way
Thanks for the reply.
Anki 9000
all I gotta say
They apparently have a teamspeak server, maybe try jumping on there for some motivation? Eventually someone here can be your study buddy and keep you motivated as well or something. As textfugu seems to stress a lot, it’s really about finding your way, and it truly is.
Good luck
I found a program for a decent price, so I consider myself lucky. Out of the 750,000 industrial robots in the world, Japan alone has over 400,000 of them, so I think it’s the best place to work if I’m thinking of robotics.
As for the Katakana, I’m hoping this site will help me with that, though I don’t think it’ll be too big of a deal, I know Hiragana already, and I learned it in about a week, Katakana should be easy enough.

be a rebel and say Shi instead of yon
no problems, I guess we have road bumps everywhere, I have trouble with numbers. I know all the numbers and hyaku, sen, and such but the orders get confusing and I get tongue tied and it takes me longer than it should to give an answer when someone says “what’s 46 in Japanese”
The problem with psychology is that it doesn’t really work until you believe it works, it’s a very messy subject. How many times have you heard “You can’t change unless you want to change” or “you’re only as bad as you think you are.” So better get to believin’ my friend.
well thank you much madam, I’ve been everywhere with my lessons so it’s pretty disjointed in my head. I learned Hiragana on my own, I delved deeper into phrases by listening to some audio lessons, and bits of grammar from a textbook, so hopefully I can put all that loose knowledge together on here, though I must say I love what I’m reading so far.
July 22nd to August 18. So I got a ways to study before I have to leave. My mother got me a 10000 yen note for Christmas, so I keep it on my desk in my dorm as motivation for me to learn and work hard. I guess it’s a sort of Resolution reminder.
Peppergrass, I hope you don’t spend the whole year on Hiragana, that sounds a bit… excessive. Unless I was learning the wrong thing, I could read, write and recognise hiragana within a week, with nothing more than a video of some anime girl reading hiragana, and wikipedia’s standard Hiragana stroke order picture. I just looked at the chart for 5 minutes, then tried to copy the chart from 100% memory, and each time of repeating this, a few more hiragana would appear on the chart each time until I had the entire thing filled out.

merry christmas.
I signed up for a short 4 week study program in Japan on Dec 30th so my Resolution is to learn as much as possible for when I go, as well as save up as much money as possible so I can do a lot of cool things and buy lots of stuff to bring back.
I do believe that man is a gentlemen and a scholar. One of the last true samurai of Japan.
I hope to have the honor of bowing to such a man when I visit Japan.
