I’m using Lang-8 already ^^. Only thing I don’t like about it is that sometimes the people correcting change my sentences altogether, to something I can only assume I haven’t gone through yet on TextFugu, which can be a little frustrating. One time, I wrote “俺の名前はジョナスです” and it got corrected to “ジョナスといいます” and I couldn’t understand why or how that even works, but yeah…
Though, are they fine with you just typing a bunch of sentences with the exact same structure but with different nouns/verbs/adjectives? I know that sometimes you won’t get many corrections at all sometimes, if any. I try to help others with their Swedish/English, of course.
Likely when they completely flip stuff around that you write, it’s because that’s a more natural way of writing it.
So I would focus more on the ones that do tiny fixes instead, for now. Once you progress and start to understand the more complex fixes, then you’ll know you have the skill level to use them.
You’ll also have a written record of the more complex fixes that you can refer back to once you are skilled enough to understand them.

In my Anki guide, I might cover some of the issues you’re having. But really you should focus more on the lessons than the vocab from Anki. If you download the browser apps that start with Rikai, they allow you to mouse over Japanese text and get instant translations. So you can keep with your lessons and just translate anything that pops up that you don’t know. Once you complete the lessons, then you can go back and focus more on vocab. When doing Anki, you must stop progressing quicker than your time allows. This is probably one of the biggest failings of TextFugu, as it doesn’t focus enough on proper pacing with Anki, and it quickly becomes overwhelming. If you have too many reviews that you are doing daily, you shouldn’t be adding more to the mix until you’ve got it at a comfortable level. That, or add all of them as you come to them, but do your reviews really quickly. So you aren’t thinking too much about them. Look at each card for 2 seconds and no more. If you know it, pass it, if you don’t, fail it. Whichever works best for you.

You’ll find it under Browser Extensions in the following thread. It allows you to mouse over a Japanese word and get its definition and Kanji.

If you use Rikaisama it will also have audio files for a lot of them. It’s massively helpful for learning Japanese. ^_^

As far as I’m aware, the hiragana doesn’t get replaced with Kanji later on as that would advance it way past beginners level, which is the goal of TextFugu. Yes you should be using the Radical/Kanji/Kanji Vocab decks linked into the seasons, as they will teach vocab using Kanji rather than just Hiragana. The point of this is to approach Kanji in a systematic way without limiting the vocab he can teach due to complicated Kanji.
If you wish to add new cards to the deck or modify the existing card to use the Kanji instead, it won’t break anything.
Yes that word means essay.
Do you have any of the Rikai tools for your browser?
One round about way to do so would be to get Evernote and clip all the pages you want to it.

From what I’ve inferred so far from the various sources on this, I wouldn’t expect the update to happen for at least another year, and frankly it would surprise me if it weren’t longer than that.
Koichi still reads WaniKani forums, particularly if his name is mentioned, though I suspect other Tofugu members may bring it to his attention.
I am truly convinced he doesn’t read these forums at all. He told me he would post more on here when I asked him once, he made one post, and that was it.
So yeah. I wouldn’t hold your breath.
If you don’t want to use TextFugu in it’s current state, you’d be better off switching to Tae Kim or Imabi rather than waiting for the update. If they go by plan, the new update will have intermediate and advanced levels, so by the time it comes out I would plan on being at that level by then, rather than waiting to learn the basics, which is what TF currently covers.

Personally I wouldn’t bother until you’ve at least completed TextFugu.
Even then you’ll have to have a good dictionary and constantly look up all the new vocab.
Playing it in Hiragana certainly won’t be detrimental, and will help a lot as you learn new vocab and practice reading hiragana.
