From what I understand it’s just an upping the ante type thing.
The way I’ve seen it, the winner of each round gets to hit the other with the stick, but you can wear the bucket to try and block the strike.
I’ve seen other things in western culture as well, like you get to slap the person when you win, and you keep going until one person can’t handle the slaps and quits.
@Aikibujin: nooooo, you can’t lapse anymore! It’s out of the question. You’re simply not allowed. I will make you read me Japanese children stories before bed if I must O_O
LOL.
What happened to your desk btw? It was such a good desk…
@Aikibujin I hope you can pull yourself up off that ledge for good this time! I know I’ve had trouble procrastinating on things like this in the past myself, but I’m determined to see this through even if I only study a teeny bit each day.
It’s more lack of time for me as I am currently working towards a PhD in psychology. So during semester breaks I go strong again, but in between, my studying gets pretty dicey.
What about an arch-nemesis? It’s almost the same word, but soo much cooler. ^_^

May 2, 2014 at 3:25 am in reply to: TextFugu Season Completions for Great Motivation of Heart! #45064There’s nothing wrong with using the Kanji material here, it’s just like beta edition for WaniKani, though WK is actually still in beta, but it seems as if it will be more of a permanent beta… It’s weird.
Anyhoo, WK is really great, but if you’re not ready for it, just stick to the Kanji here, just know that you can’t skip levels on WK and the first ones go by really slowly, and you’ll already know most of the first 10 levels if you cover all the Kanji here. So you may have to grind for a few months before you get to new Kanji. I do believe there’s quite a bit of vocab that isn’t covered here, over there though.
If you find yourself having trouble with the Kanji over here, I would suggest you skip it and look at WK, remember you get a discount with your lifetime sub here.

I too took Japanese at a university (3 years) and let it lapse, so I feel your pain. I’ve started studying again 3 times since then and have let it lapse on all but the latest, which I’m only barely pulling off not letting it lapse again. I’m all hanging from the ledge with my finger tips and such…
Stupid ledges…
I’ll refrain from posting my usual links, as it appears you have already seen them.

One of the happiest memories of my life (top 10) was getting my Nintendo when I was 8.
Yeah pac-man was cool, and Atari was amusing, but Nintendo… Dude…
Whole new level.

April 30, 2014 at 9:13 am in reply to: Should we learn onyomi-kunyomi-meaning at the same time? #45042Everyone learns differently.
Personally I think that method would take longer, but at the same time I think you would experience less burn out. So as long as you aren’t in a rush, I see no problems with that, and it could end up being even better if you ever lack motivation.

*Basks in the love* That’s pretty crazy that you learned English yourself starting at 10. O.O

That’s so cool that you’ll get to go to Japan every year. I don’t have the cash flow for it unfortunately. >_<

It’s a site that has a bunch of children’s stories which should be fairly easy to read for advanced beginners.
