No idea why I didn’t think of げん as (Gen)esis. So obvious….
Here’s mine:
元
Meaning: Origin
Reading: げんMeaning:
The Eye of Horus, a symbol of one of the gods from the ORIGIN of civilization.
(explanation: This kanji looks remarkably like the Eye of Horus, see pic below)
Reading:
You use your げんjutsu (GENjutsu) to trick your enemies into thinking you are an Egyptian god!
They quake in fear of your awesome powers from the ORIGINs of the universe!(explanation: Referencing the anime Naruto where they use illusionary techniques against enemies)
Also added Memrise under Japanese Practice, should have been there from the start, must have accidentally deleted it in editing.
Probably better asking on the WaniKani forums. Someone may be able to create and app (if there isn’t one already) where you can use it offline, then upload the data when you are back online.
Or request it here:

Ah, in your position I’d skip TextFugu completely and just download the Ultimate Anki decks from:
and
The Core 2k/6k Vocabulary Anki deck:

And I’d continue grammar with:
In case you missed it, I also did a thread with my master list of other Japanese resources:

Have you used WaniKani?

Sentence Dictionary – http://tatoeba.org/eng/The last one looks really cool, but haven’t used it yet properly. ^_^
Welcome to TextFugu!
If you have problems with Kanji (most people do) and you would like something that is even better/funner than Anki, check out WaniKani on the dashboard (http://www.textfugu.com/dashboard/) it is a separate site, but is also ran by Koichi. It is similar in concept to Anki but has more of a game format. There are 50 levels you progress through by “mastering” radicals, Kanji, and vocab composed of Kanji. You also have to actually type in answers to get them correct rather than telling the program how you feel you went with it. The first 2 levels are free, then it’s a monthly/yearly payment plan, which is discounted for being a member of TextFugu.
This is what I am currently using for Kanji and I couldn’t imagine going back to Anki for it.
I usually don’t suggest this to new users as it can be overwhelming if someone is new to the language, but you seem like the perfect fit for it. ^_^
Check out this thread for some tips on organizing Anki 2 with the early chapters of TextFugu:

You can also use the following thread to track your progress and share your ideas/concerns when you finish a season (gain a level ^_^):

Welcome to TextFugu!
I currently live in Australia as well, but no where near a farm. :P
I also taught ESL and was planning on doing it in Japan, but never quite got there. Good luck in your quest and I hope you can see it through.
It sounds like you’ve browsed around the forums a bit, so you’ve likely seen me post these to other new members, but I’ll post them here too, just in case. ^_^

Yeah, I plan on moving to that once I finish with TextFugu. ^_^
The owner/writer of the site also hangs out on the WaniKani forums under the name Seth3.
