    Hey hey!

    You’re still here!

    *hugs*

To be fair both courses were labeled as “Conversational Japanese.”

According to the updates Koichi (in theory) is supposed to be working on the back-end content for TextFugu atm, though whether he actually is doing this or not is another question.

With WaniKani I went to the site and it says it’s doing some beta thing and to sign up for it. I did this and got a message that it will be starting up in January.

So what’s happening with the current users of WaniKani? Are the forums still open or what?

Not really 6 levels. It was level 1-3 with two different institutes.

I’m pretty sure both of them were the same in that they didn’t really start to focus on Kanji until level 4, which I never took. They may have introduced 20 Kanji all up at the first place, the second one was more like 10 (not including numbers).

Just came back to the site after a year hiatus. Glad to see my lifetime gets me into etoeto, otherwise this thread would be rather disheartening.

I’m starting from scratch as I have a new computer and was only part through season 3.

Sounds like I shouldn’t bother with the Kanji here and should instead use WK.

If anyone still posts here that uses it, should I skip the kanji and simply slam through the seasons here to get into etoeto and then start working on WK, or should I start on WK now, while working through TF?

Assume I know nothing about Kanji (not exactly true but it might as well be for these purposes).

    ZOMG! I’m back!

I can’t remember where I left off, but I think I was part way through Season 3. As such I’m starting again from scratch. Partly because I need to re-remember, and partly because I have a new computer and thus have to re-download everything. X_X

I ended up dropping my Japanese studying about a year ago because I moved, got a new computer, and went back to college (studying psychology). Had only one of these things occurred I likely would have stayed strong, but alas the combination was too much.

But I am back now starting from the beginning. I’ve finished Season 1 and am starting Season 2. I was more advanced than Season 3 before I started TextFugu (3 college courses 10 years ago and another 3 courses 2 years ago), but I only knew like 5 Kanji.

To my dismay I had a hard time remembering Katakana! @_@!

I’ve reviewed them enough now that I’m once again comfortable with them, but I can’t believe I actually forgot some of them…

    It looks like the activity here has died down quite a bit in the last few months. ;_;

    Come back peoples!

Is the Japanese support for Anki 2 gained by adding “Japanese support” under the Add-ons section?

Seems logical, just want to make sure that’s correct.

    -Cheers

Remember that Koichi-sama does suggest at the beginning to copy down grammar rules and things that you feel are important into Evernote, so you have a quick reference guide. That said, it would be really great to see something like that within Tetxfugu itself.

So the game’s based on rhythm, not Japanese?

The only problem I have with the movie titles one, is all you need is the first kana and you know which title it is. Half way through I started only reading the first one’s and just clicking what I thought would be right, and they all were.

It would be better if they tried to make all the answers similar with just a few wrong characters to trip you up.

Congrats to Neil and Advanced on finishing your seasons.

    がんばって!

Yeah the added O bit used to confuse the hell out of me before I realized it was an honorific, and even afterwards I, like you, thought it was tacked onto things that I wasn’t sure why it would be given special reverence.

As far as I’m aware, in general, it’s more common to just say sake, than osake. I would imagine the situation would determine when osake would be used instead.

As far as studying goes, just keep in mind that any noun beginning with O could be an honorific version, though this will be easy to distinguish when you are reading in kanji.

For practical purposes, go with monkey see monkey do. If you hear it being used with an O, use the O, if not, don’t. If you’re not sure, go ahead and use the O version to be safe, until people start looking at you weird. LOL

A prime example is oheya no kagi.

You wouldn’t think that room key would deserve an honorific, but that’s part of the vocab that I had from one of my courses. I still don’t know how often the O is actually used though, which is why immersion is important.

Sorry for ignoring your first question, but I’m not confident enough to actually give you an authoritative response.

If you are lifetime it should say premium subscriber, get your dad to check it out.

Ignore the people who say there is already a thread for that, unless they actually post a link. If they do, just go ahead and use it.

Some people on this board seem to think that everyone on here should magically be aware of every topic ever created. Even though many other boards disdain resurrecting old threads. The general response from a select few members is to try to never create any new threads if there is one that might remotely relate to your topic. Obviously without a proper search function this is just silly. As long as you are following Koichi’s stickied guidelines for the forum you aren’t doing anything wrong by creating a new thread, so unless they are a moderator, just ignore them. If they happen to be generous enough to actually post a link to said thread (you’d be lucky), go ahead and check it out, and if it truly is the same thing, just continue there. If you feel your inquiry is different from the thread, simply state why you believe your question is different, and move on within your own thread.

Don’t be intimidated by strong personalities. Just because they post a lot doesn’t give them any authority over what should or shouldn’t be here, that’s the mod’s jobs.

    ^_^

Disclaimer: Not targeting anyone specific here truly, if I was I’d simply state names. I just remember feeling the same way when I started and I can’t remember who the offenders were, and don’t really care enough to look them up, I just rolled with it.

    :P

Yeah I’m a mnemonics junky too.

As an example; for せいじか I imagined Seiji from Durarara as a politician. What! Seiji? (?=ka).

LOL, mine was similar to that.

I imagine Seji like an old wise man (sage) being Sagey.

As that’s how a politician should be like.

But in reality they aren’t, so I throw in the last Ka like you did as a question:

What!? A politician is Seiji? (?=ka).

My mate had trouble remembering which word meant drink or read, so I came up with the following:

Yomimasu = Read – Yo! Me must read!

Nomimasu = Drink – No! Me must drink!

In my brain I made it a bit absurd (thus easier to remember) by imagining the situation as a two headed Giant, where one head is responsible and the other is a slacker. ^_^

Of course as with any good mnemonics I no longer need the mnemonic as it’s been ingrained in my brain, but the mnemonics help lock it in.
