    Is Textfugu updated or maintained?
    No.

I visit this forum every couple of years and there is nothing happening.

I joined TextFugu in 2011. It was fun for a while but it died a long time ago. I rarely visit and when I do it is so disappointing. EtoEto? Yeah, right. I’m not going to hold my breath,

How can I get my Lifetime Member money back? I’m 60, so I don’t think I’ll live long enough for TextFugu to live up to the initial promises. :(

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

@Altaira: Did you ever come on the forum back then? I started around the end of 2010, got the lifetime membership just before the new year, then started RTK not long after. I’ve stuck around on the forum here the majority of that time for some strange reason, despite the fact I stopped using TextFugu probably in the Spring/Summer of 2011 because it ran out of content. missingno15 drifts in and out from time to time but nobody else is still around from when I started :/

@MM: I think I joined around Jan of 2011. I didn’t find this forum very friendly or helpful and only posted sporadically. Some of the members were really annoying. Like missingo15 for example. Didn’t she post in Japanese most of the time? Plus, attach annoying photos?

I spent much more time at the RTK forum where the majority have a lot of patience and even kindness for beginners.

I, too, have been away for a LONG time and this thread is very illuminating.

I started TextFugu in early 2011 (lifetime membership). I stopped after a short while to do RTK. That took forever and when I tried TextFugu again, I couldn’t get back into the groove.

Due to personal issues (health issues and a death in the family) I have let go of my Japanese studies for almost a year. That makes me sad.

I have no idea how to re-start. I began to loathe ANKI, so TextFugu is probably not the way to go for me now.

When I first previewed WaniKani way back when, it was so different from RTK, I was put off. Maybe that doesn’t matter anymore.

I did TextFugu Season 1 and then started RTK. After the 7 months I spent on RTK, I tried to get back in to TextFugu and, for me, it is too confusing to go through the kanji with another system.

I have somewhat of given up on TextFugu for now and use Anki for sentences and other options for grammar.

I have no idea if things would have gone better had I just stayed with TF. There was no WaniKani option at that tme either.

“Some people on this board seem to think that everyone on here should magically be aware of every topic ever created. Even though many other boards disdain resurrecting old threads.”

That. I rarely visit this forum because of a few  somewhat bitter old-timers who apparently have learned Japanese already, have no lives and post really non-helpful comments. Or, post all in Japanese, which is not inspiring to a beginner. Just confusing and annoying.

The Reviewing the Kanji forum is a much friendlier place for beginners.

“Oh and by the way: It’s REALLY annoying when people come in and pick everyone’s brain to find the best Japanese resources and never come back. If you’re not going to be courteous and at least show your face again after I spend an hour chatting with you about all of the resources that I’ve found over my two years of study then don’t bother to come in at all.”

    Nice.

Yes. I am doing the Core 2k/4k and Core10Kv4 on Anki for vocab and sentences. Plus, the iOS JSensei app.

I have the opposite situation. I recently finished RTK 1 and now am trying to figure out how to go through the kanji on TextFugu. I’m finding it bit confusing. I’ve already got mnemonics for over 2,000 kanji, but not how to pronounce them.

(I really cannot face RTK2, RTK1 was plenty of torture for seven months!)

    Any suggestions?

Yes, the payment method *is* Paypal, but I haven’t shopped at the TextFugu store before so the TextFugu Checkout page wants my info before I get sent to the Paypal payment page. The TextFugu Checkout page is not encrypted.
