@Yann: I can see your point, but I don’t think it’s a huge issue.
With English as my first language, I skipped English 0.01. In fact, before learning a second language, I had forgotten what things like ‘verbs’ and ‘adjectives’ were. So even if is not entirely correct, the lesson still helps a begginer with understanding particles. You got the point anyway right?
Perhaps there are better words than ‘is’ and ‘are’, but I can’t think of any that would relate to the particles that have been introduced by that point in the TextFugu-book.

The particles are attached to the preceeding word and define their gramatical presence, so the ordering is benign. Here is the article I first read on the subject. There are a lot of cases where word ordering is important though, so you cant just throw a sentence together without thinking about it.
This may be wrong, but to me it has a slightly different inflection. Like someone was going to say “Writing Kanji is difficult” but amended it after they began speaking with ‘by hand’, as opposed to typing which is easy. What are other peoples thoughts on this?
Edit: Beaten to it while I was typing things.

If not it’s just an author being creative.
XD, poor classmates.
Many thanks, and I get to yell Go-Go-Go! when reading my number.
Is 丸 acceptable in all situations? Think I heard that somewhere too.
Hi all.
Is there any special ways to read out a telephone number, or for that matter any series of digits? Specifically shortcuts like double and tripple something, as my number contains a double 7 and a tripple 5. Also Yon/shi ; nana/shichi ; ku/kyuu?
A Cicada perhaps?
Merry December 27th! Because, why not?
It hurts!

I can certainly understand how you feel there. However there’s not much more one can do than persevere, the brain can only take in so much at a time. My advise is to try and enjoy the processes that are available to you as much as possible, and forget about the desired result as much as you can too.
It’s sort of like with exams, if you stress out about whether or not you can pass, it will be an unpleasent experience and will impact your performance negatively…
Feeling down is ok though, and they say it builds character ;D

Just edit the template with br’s to make it more readable.
“du” works with the google IME. Always pronounced ‘zu’ now, if im not mistaken.
I too chose the harry potter books. It happens to be the series that pried me away from the TV when I was a kid, ( and perhaps I was influenced by the text fugu example sentences). How long? it’s hard to say, I don’t usually have the time for it, but translate one or two pages when I can. It is slow, and after coming across something tricky, I will then just put the book aside and study the new word/grammar instead. (Dumbledore’s speech patterns are a pain to look up).
Btw if you decide to try, don’t compare the English/Spanish with the Japanese too much. If anything, read a chapter in English, then don’t even reference back to it.
And like マーク said, if you don’t have fun, try something else.
@マーク: That’s not the case, I’m doing more or less the same thing. It’s slow going, and possibly not reflective of Japanese writing conventions. However, I’ve learnt a ton of vocab/kanji, had more than enough practice identifying radicals in kanji I’ve never seen before (it’s a hardback), and had a lot more fun than just using flashcards. + all the usual stuff like reading speed and what not.
I’m also waiting on the Shinsekai Yori novels to ship from Japan, not at all sure if I’ll be able to read them though.
