Hi guys, little help?
I’m fine with the basics of nominalization using both の and こと, but have yet to understand the significance of のこと. Can anyone explain it?
Or in these cases would the の be attached to the previous clause, serving one of it’s other gramatical purposes…
れんしゅう… rent shoe… it takes a lot of practice to rent shoes. Ya know, rented shoes are so discusting you might pull such a face it scares off the person behind the counter. It takes practice to rent shoes sucsesfully.

As for the cheaper options mentioned, I was thinking along the lines of a secondhand something running Android.
Didn’t know there were syncing issues with Ankidroid though…

I used to be fine with my £10 ‘dumb’ phone, then I thought about buying an iphone for the language support, basically I wanted to text in kana. Don’t think I could go back… they’re amazing.
Anyway, I can vouch for iAnki, Tae Kim’s app, Kotoba (a dictionary), kaomo…nary (a live feed emoji dictionary), and Japanese verb conjugator. They all work offline (whether wifi or 3g), updating and synchronizing are done when you have a connection.
But far be it from me to say what’s worth it for you. If you really do just want to use a couple of apps, you could probably find something much cheaper than an ipad.
Just upgraded. Wow it is awsome, and the audio has appeared! (never bothered with dropbox).
Thanks for the instructions mtb812, you probably saved me an hour with that.
I think it’s well worth it. I’ll never again be bored waiting for a train. Streamlined; yes. Never had any peoblems with synchronization.
BTW, A new version has recently been released, and I haven’t updated yet.
Definitely make your own. Like Joel said, they will be more effective, and the process by which the mnemonic is created will also reinforce it (kinda hard to describe what I mean by that). You’ll get quicker the more you do it, and most importantly, that will help with learning other things too.
Just to confirm; the problem is the tops getting cut off?
I use OO too, but have never had any problems… which fonts are those?
And which version and build of OO are you using? (click: help>about openoffice.org)
@Mister: I’d probably do that without even having to try… if I didn’t have to work. Had the chance back in school, my sleeping patterns would shift by 2-4 hours a day.
There’s a new one? Yay!

As for the kanji, I learnt all the radicals early, then set up my kanji deck from the downloads page. Pretty much skip the kanji pages now.
I write them down on paper.
Also note that certain PDF formats (which I assume the sheets are in), contain subsets of the fonts used. This means that they will display correctly on any device running Acrobat Reader, even if the fonts are not installed on the machine, and all formatting can be preserved.
For a few months at university I slept twice a day, but I was just being lazy XD.
Used to use an alarm program that wakes windows up from a hibernated state, then plays an audio/video/opens any file. Think it was called “talking alarm clock”. Now my phone does that.
