Do you have an specific goals to work towards? If you have something like that, it will be easier to find some enjoyable learning routes.

My goal is reading Japanese books (in the short term at least), so I focused on things that would get me reading asap, while more or less neglected regular listening comprehension.

You said you’ve been reading blogs? That sounds like a great method to me (even if it’s a grind XD).

Hello! Another English here; Stroud Gloucestershire to be precise. Wow someone else is posting at 3:00 am XD (I work nights, and am nocturnal by default).

What facets of Japanese spiritualism are you interested in? I’m a huge fan of eastern mythology, and the modern works of fiction that continue it. Just bought 『狐笛のかなた』(Koteki no Kanata) and『きつねのはなし』(Kitsune no Hanashi) along with some other books.

    Good luck, and have fun!

Like that; “will teach me not to read attentively” mistake… Hmmm, the fact that it exists means you actually did learn to read less attentively…

Hmm, I’ve been typing おなじ whenever I need a single 々 on the Google IME. But as Joel said; just typing the word is the thing to do.

I’d also reccomend Spice and Wolf; mostly focuses on the interactions between the two main characters as they travel through various countries. Lots to discuss with those books. Fusion of Japanese and pagan mythology/folk religion.

Space ALC for things specific to certain words or grammar. Just type in the box and click the biggest button.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a kind of job where you had nothing better to do than to sit around studying, while getting paid quite good money for it… XD A job where the instructions include; “If you want to sleep, do it in shifts so that someone’s awake to answer the telephone” (in the off-chance that it were to ring). Wouldn’t that be grand…

I steer clear of dubs unless the Japanese voices are annoying/badly acted (becoming more perceptive of what’s realistic as I study Japanese). However, there are a few very successful English dubs. The best I’ve ever heard is Cowboy Bebop, and some of the Ghibli films have done it well. I remember agonising over the familiar voice of the Tolmekian general in ‘Nausicaa’ for hours before working out who it was (Uma Thurman).

I think the filthy part is the saliva, rather than the suction, so just having it in someone elses mouth is just as bad. Whether or not it’s discusting to hold one’s own pens in one’s own mouth, would be a matter of personal opinion I guess.

So you haven’t run into these problems before now? Wow.

Just learn it anyway, doesn’t matter if things are a bit out of order (they are). Personally, I got fed up with the kanji pace and learnt the whole radicals deck before randomising entire kanji deck. Thought it was more fun that way.

Although you should still submit a bounty when you see a problem like that.
