People think the Japanese are robotic? Sounds like an oversimplification. I wouldn’t know what feature exactly gives that impression either. They are just as human as I or the people criticizing. Archeology sounds like a blast if you can make a living out of it. I wish you the best of luck.
I see you are posting your own position, but I cannot agree with you. I propose we take it some other discussion. Perhaps a philosophy thread should be created?
Since I get so riled up about it (obviously), gives me an opportunity to practice the kind of tolerance that would be acceptable socially in Japan.

I have yet to read all of your post Patrick and will update if I don’t address anything.
Honestly, I regret saying it now, even if it’s the truth. I kind of just wanted to do an update, but I might offend someone with this or they might identify it as some kind of hate speech when it was just my being too open. If you are Christian, I mean no disrespect for you or the wonderful things your supposed Christ has done. The things we can agree that are wonderful.
How I feel, even if it’s genuine has no relevance to learning Japanese. I wish you the best in those efforts no matter your faith. Unless you’re a missionary going to Japan to teach ‘the good word’, because you’re half the reason I’m here.
Reporting almost one year later:
I am still studying at a snail’s pace. Anki at least helps me secure the words that I know when I am not actively reading further into it. I have a tad bit more time in the summer that I plan to wedge some more study time in. I also made a native japanese friend. We played Dragon Quest together for the Famicom and he helped me figure out what was going on.For the record, since starting on the kanji, I do think I couldn’t possibly disagree more with the following statements unless this were sarcasm, Koichi:
(Under the page for 才)
“You have a cross. Why is there a slide / stroke going through the cross? Why, because religion
really was a ‘stroke of genius.’
When you think about crosses and religion, it’s hard to help but think of how it’s changed and affected history. So genius.”Obviously a remark about Christianity, which bears the cross of their savoir as their symbol. I find my opinion remarkably opposing this, as I find Christianity to be the mark of ignorance, gullibility and thoughtless subservience. I would have probably left with no remark if it wasn’t stating something as ridiculous as basically ‘you should remember the kanji meaning genius by remembering how genius religion is’. That only makes it harder to remember, quite honestly. It goes against everything I’ve come to know, which is going against mnemonics.
Are you wanting to learn development related words? Most of them are foreign words spelled out with katakana based in computer science as far as programming is concerned. And the rest is related to art assets and the production process, which should contain many other basic words.
What is your favorite mythological creature? Mine is the 尻目 simply because there is so little story behind it and it’s so insensibly gross. I also like かっぱ because they have a lot of character. I’m sure if I was less ignorant of their mythology I would favour even more.
Yes, this was after the changes. I didn’t look too much into it or recall what I tested, so it may have just been my imagination. Something to look out for and be tested, just in case. My main concern lies with the status page. My circumstance was originally confusing as I planned to bother Koichi again, but after I reread and settled the issue, I think this would be a good way to put people at ease without asking.
Maybe not that big of a deal, just a suggestion for the site! Ooh! You could even put a counter of how many days they have left.
It was originally my career as well until I realized I was going to college in the US for Game Design. I only ended up abhorring American game design more than I did before. Now I’m most likely going to just finish my current AS and then go into chemistry or whatever will help me make a decent living in Japan.
Michael: I ended up coming to similar conclusions, but made my passion list a bunch of basic words that might help me engage in philosophical discussion such as ‘truth’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘ideals’.

Will I understand this Tiger Blood business if I keep proceeding with lessons?
Kaona: Thank you. Especially if you are a fine female as your drawn profile picture hopefully implies.
SinisterT: I will have your luck, my fun and the safety too. I take pride in my greed.
JiN: That is fantastic. -
