I would search for a book written originally in Japanese. Harry potter is just a translation, which in my opinion doesn’t reflect the Japanese way of writing. Mainly because its english phrases written with the intent of sounding right in English. So, translating it isn’t easy or necessarily correct. At least, that’s how I feel. I would get a Japanese book because it will also include phrases that are part of the Japanese language, as well as more formal and informal language mixed into dialogue and other contexts.

    Just my two cents. :)

I remember doing this when I was a kid. I will have to try this out, that’s a great idea! Perhaps you could also subtract the coins, or time yourself.

Number twenty should be 心臓- shinzou. 心筋 means myocardium. For number three, つり帯 is the noun for sling, though I’m not 100% sure. I will check on the others when I’ve got a bit more time. Hope this helps!

Good point kanjiman, I’d not thought of that! You can cut out the “ka” part of the sentence of you raise your tone, also.

Nothing of the sort. It’s like English- if you’re from Boston, you don’t speak the same way as somebody from Texas. Tone depends largely on region and the individuals voice.

I discovered this a little bit ago. I remember faintly before my Japanese days that I saw all those weird little stick figure thingies and thought it was some kind of morse code. Lol. I also am planning on buying one of those DS games that works on teaching and practicing your kanji. Theyre designed to teach eight year old Japanese kids how to learn kanji, but hey. I have the knowledge of a Japanese two year old anyways. (in Japanese, of course!)

The drama “One Litre of Tears” is good. It is sad, so be warned, but the speaking is very clear and the plot is uncomplicated, easy t follow if you want to focus on the dialogue rather than the story. Aside from that, some of nana mizuki’s music is good. Utada Hikaru also. They both tend to be non-anime singers, if that means anything for you.

Are you on a phone or computer? Also, what kind of computer do you have? Some computers have pre-installed IMEs hidden in them.
