    Hey. Good job.
Yes first few times. Just don’t think of it as a thing you have to show to other people. Just think of it as a way to improve you Japanese.

While we are on the subject. I personally love “99% Invisible”. Do you know a podcast I Japanese that is something like 99% Invisible in any way?
And tunein.com is a great idea, thank you.

一人 can mean “one person” and it can mean “alone”.
Both translations are correct. It’s just a matter of context. The person or thing the sentence is referring to is often dropped if it is obvious who (or what).

Probably not a solution to your problem, but: 8 or 8.1?

    I have 8.1 installed.

Perhaps you forgot to install the Japanese Plugin again?

Which Japanese plugin? I don’t remember I installed a Japanese plugin.

Run in compatibility mode maybe? I don’t know if that’ll fix it, since I refuse to use Windows 8. If I bought a computer I would ‘downgrade’ immediately.
That’s what I did when Vista came out. I installed XP while I was on the bus on the way home from the store. Anyways, derailing the thread here lol…

I don’t think it is an actual error. I just think it is done in another way here. I don’t know if it occurs because of the new OS.

When I bough my new computer, I thought I would downgrade immediately too. I disliked the new OS too and I’ve had bad experiences with another computer where 8.1 was installed. But I found out the errors occurred because the computer wasn’t build to Win 8 (and especially not for 8.1), or rather the OS wasn’t build to the computer.
So with this totally new pc (which can run the latest games in the best graphic) win 8.1 works fine.

I think the grammar part is much funnier too.
I know I’ll lose and forget a grammar point if I don’t remember to use it. I don’t know where but at one (relatively early) point there don’t come new sentence decks to anki. They have been very important to make sure I didn’t lose the grammar points. If I’ve forgotten one, I know anki will remind me of it. So to make sure I don’t forget I add my own cards to my sentence deck.
You can download the recordings of sentences by right-clicking on the blue button (the one you press to play the sound) and click “save link as”.

It’s your choice. I think WaniKani works very well but some people complain about it takes so much time when you begin to level up that you don’t have time to study grammar. If someone don’t agree with me please say it, so we can get a varied opinions.
I choose to unsubscribe from WK and make my own decks instead (and I follow TF’s decks at the same time). This way I have much more control. If I feel I could do more, I can always add more cards. If it builds up too much so I don’t get enough time, I just don’t add new cards for a (relatively short) period. This way I can make sure I learn vocabs I need more faster, as I add them from eg. articles I want to read and lang-8 entries I’ve written.

    よろしく Kyle.
I think it’s possible to become fluent within a year, only if you practice talking to people in Japanese. Since you have Japanese family it shouldn’t be any problem for you. Good luck.

koichi is working on a project for intermediate. It’s called etoeto. It’s still only in Alpha, and it’s not really lessons as you know them from TF or any other grammarbook. It texts written and recorded by native speakers with translations¨you can study.
If you joined TF before June 10, 2013, you can get free access. Check out the link below and find out if it something for you.

I think this thread deserves a revive. It’s long time ago it have been alive, people must have gotten some new dreams in the meantime to tell about.

After reading this article on Tofugu
    http://www.tofugu.com/2013/12/04/visiting-japanese-schools-or-how-to-be-a-rock-star-in-japan/
I dreamt some nice Japanese girls visited our school. I tried to impress some of them by talking to them in Japanese. It turned into a nightmare. They laughed at me, because of my incredible bad Japanese. Then one of my classmates began talking to them (in real life he have nothing to do with Japan) and they loved him. They slandered me. Then I became sad.

I would say the same as Joel. Skim until you don’t understand something.
I can imagine it is annoying not to know where to start.

My curiosity tells me to ask you a question. I just read your introduction and wondered, I bought TF four years ago and it’s fist now you are going to begin using it?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m just curious not offensive.
