Mark, congrats.
Eventually I was going to get around playing the new DLC for Skyrim. Though I’m thinking my English version saves wouldn’t work with the Japanese version? That would suck.
Hmm..maybe I should place post its around my room on all the stuff. I don’t know how 90% of the stuff in my room is called in Japanese. Could end up making a mess though lol.
August 26, 2012 at 3:41 pm in reply to: TextFugu Season Completions for Great Motivation of Heart! #34971I finished Textfugu a few days ago except for the Emi stuff which won’t take too long since most of it is vocab and grammar covered in the 7 seasons.
Textfugu has proven to be a great base to work off on in studying Japanese. I’ve certainly learned a lot from it and will probably still go back to it for refreshers when I forget anything. There is still a lot left to learn but Textfugu has helped me figure out good study habits and good ways to go about finding more things to learn.
I’m not sure what to think of my ‘skill’ in Japanese. I guess technically I should be “intermediate” after all this. I can understand all the sentences on Textfugu well but considering how little I really know when venturing out into the great Japanese wild, I feel it’s still low. All that means though is I need more, more Japanese.
Getting vocab from one of my favorite songs with the help of rikaichan. It feels great to be able to hear the words in the music once you learn them. :)
I started using iKnow to learn more vocab. It’s a neat site and is definitely more fun to go through than Anki though the words tend to repeat a lot. I gave the Brainstorm game a try which is also great though I was hoping for some sort of end boss after getting enough words right.
Also found this news site which is conveniently available in both Japanese and English which means a great opportunity to practice and confirm right away how poor my understanding is haha.

Well yeah, why should Obaasan get all your attention? I’m sure Okaasan and Oneesan could also help you explode into a mushroom cloud of learngosity…
On a serious note, I think he means don’t sweat on the tiny details and focus on gaining more overall practice and knowledge with the language.
This is an interesting take on it: http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/blog/language-is-peeing
While studying my vocab I came across 時計。 I searched it on google just to help me remember it and ended up finding a wonderful app, 美人時計!
I have it on my phone now and think it’s quite awesome. Most interesting way to check the time I’ve ever had lol.
I’m getting more comfortable thinking and writing in Japanese. It’s still very hard and full of mistakes but it’s not as painful a struggle to write a Lang-8 post or think random things in 日本語。
Well, I’m pretty much done at this point except for the last set which I’ve been holding off on until the decks are released…I haven’t checked in awhile. Maybe they are already? I can’t find the downloads page anymore with the new layout.
Even so, I’m certainly no master at the kanji here and it will take a lot more Anki reps and immersion before that will happen. As for newspapers, I’ve always heard that the bare minimum to be able to read those is around 1000 kanji which is more than what is available here. Not ready for that yet!
I’m testing readthekanji.com, reading RTK and picking up new vocab so I should get there eventually. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Haha one of my coworkers is addicted to GANGNAM STYLE. He randomly starts singing and dancing around the office. It is very catchy.
Speaking of which, I could dance to this:
One guy commented how reading the lyrics made this song uncomfortable for him. I think they make it even better.

I’ve been watching 日本人の知らない日本語. It’s pretty funny even not understanding most of it.
