haha thanks everyone yea the only radical i could make out was the mouth and i was looking through the…. thousand or so kanji that suggested until i gave up :D
@elenkis handwriting recognition!? what is this wizardry!?Not sure if this is exactly the appropriate thread for it but rather than start a whole new one I figured I’d just ask here… I cant figure out a kanji in this song

Ive got eyestrain from staring at that and my damn dictionary for so long.
First person to get it gets one dollar from me (You pay shipping and handling)Brilliant… everything in that topic is helpful… I think we need a sticky or something for that haha… Ill have to think about RTK though. Ive known about it for quite some time but its methods seem off to me… alot of my kanji learning has been something ive done entirely by myself.. basically whenever I see a kanji that i see all the time or a word i see all the time i look up tons of words that use it that seem useful and put them in my own anki deck.. so Im probably learning kanji all out of order and such but at least I remember them and learn a bunch of new words at the same time..

@Joel that’s what I thought as well.. It’s a tough conjugation to put into English words and have it fit nicely I’m leaning towards misters translation though as I think I can actually use it without changing it to fit for that part of the song. It should keep with flow quite nicely and that’s what matters most to me in song translations.. Not as worried about the smaller details as long as it feels right to me. But thanks everyone for the help with shimau and now with buchi as well that was really bugging me
@mister yep thats pretty much the same thing I got and I dont think youre being too literal either, haha told you it was violent.
@joel yea I thought about “has vanished” when I looked up some example sentances for しまう so Im gonna stick with that or perhaps try and work in misters translation some how since that works with the conjugation quite nicely… when I do translations I kind of just use the literal as a base and try and make it sound as good as possible in english so “has vanished” should work perfectly.As for ブチ speckled/mottled was the only thing I could come up with as well but I just cant make it fit anywhere… it doesnt seem all that important in the end so ill probably just drop it like I said.

Ive been working on translating a few songs for myself and Ive come across something I dont fully get. The hook of the song starts like so:
大嫌いだ 消えてしまえ
Ive pretty much decided that 大嫌いだ is “My Hatred” in this case. What i dont understand is 消えてしまえ (mostly しまえ) Every time I look at it just seems to mean “vanishes” or “is vanishing” to me but theres still alot about verbs that I dont know…. perhaps it would be helpful to post the entire hook so here it is :
大嫌いだ 消えてしまえ
頭をブチ抜かれて一瞬で
降りかかれ災いよ
血しぶき浴びて 笑ってやる(Violent I know..)
Mostly what I would love is some clarification on how しまう is used in sentences… it seems like a really weird verb.
On a less important note I also cant figure out what ブチ means… I looked everywhere and eventually just got frustrated enough to drop it from the translation..

@Mister Holy crap a whole semester of romaji and kana!? They do that!? What a colossal waste of time…
But I am insanely jealous of anyone that gets to take formal Japanese classes… I screwed up big in high school and im not doing to great in my junior college nonsense (which doesnt offer any japanese classes T_T) so I cant get into any of the schools around here that have a Japanese program. DO GOOD IN SCHOOL KIDS! or youll end up like me and not be able to get the education you want.
@Mister yea one word responses dont work not only because she already figured out hai and iie but also because normally instead of yes i say aye and if i dont hear her i usually just yell EH!? … fun thing about annoying people with foreign languages is that since they dont understand you your grammar doesnt have to be any good at all :P
@watarimono I demand the name/phone number/address of that Miku cosplayer… i intend to propose to her… if its you… marry me…

Started 2 months ago. Didnt know a damn thing about Japanese. Now I know how to read and write hiragana I know how read katakana (still shaky on the writing) and im rock solid on all the lessons from S1 and doing good on S2 (if a little slower). Best of all Ive recently begun terrorizing my mother by answer as many of her questions as possible in Japanese…
