That’s funny, this is the third time restarting my lessons, too.

Best of luck to you, friend!

    Joel:
More more authenticity, use Japanese coins. They go 1 yen, 5 yen, 10, 50, 100, 500. Then it’s notes for 1000 and up. =)

Oh, trust me. If I had some actual Japanese currency I would love to. :D

    Sayuri:
I remember doing this when I was a kid. I will have to try this out, that’s a great idea! Perhaps you could also subtract the coins, or time yourself.

I hadn’t thought about timing myself; Great idea!

    Gigatron:
My method for practising numbers was reading SKU numbers at work to myself in Japanese and seeing if I could remember them as long as I could in English. I then did the same for prices on tags. This worked fairly well and I’d say I have a decent grasp on saying numbers from 1-9,999. Once it starts getting into the 10,000′s and above however, I fall apart like a wet newspaper. :P

I got a really charming talking calculator app from iTunes Japan that’s absolutely wonderful for practising numbers and simple math terms, but I still find large numbers difficult.

Wow, that’s awesome! I’ll have to remember to do things like that when I’m not studying.
Also, do you read the SKUs number by number or as a whole? As for the price tags, I think you’d read the numbers as a whole, correct?

Currently, I’m still having trouble with 100+. Nothing some studying won’t help:D

As a gamer, I prefer using PCs more so than Macs. Though both operating systems have their downsides, I think, like kanjiman said, Macs are good for one area whilst PCs are good for another. Plus, there are a few things that you can only do on one operating system and not the other. iPhone and iPad programming is a good example.

Don’t forget Linux! Though I don’t have much experience with it, I love dabbing around with it in a virtual machine. :3

Well dang. That Rikaisama add-on does sound quite nice, though.

And actually, I have PDF files opened by Chrome because I can’t stand the sluggishness of Acrobat on my craptastic Dell, lol.

I’ve been wanting to change my schedule around for a while now, and since it’s the new year, I decided that now would be the perfect time to do so! My goals for this year are to graduate high school with a 3.3+ GPA, achieve (at least) Gold League status in SCII, get a 1550+ 2v2 rating on my Resto Druid on WoW, study one Textfugu lesson and one to two RTK lessons per day and last, but not least, get myself on the “Everyman 2-nap” sleeping schedule so I actually have time to do all these things lol.

@Sheepy: You have to tell us what your new obsessive passion is, since you mentioned it!:P

@Mousefire: Thanks for the help, I really appreciated it! ^_^

@Mister: Yeah, I’m at the last chapter (before the review) of Season Two; So I’ll definitely be starting katakana soon.(:

The Kanji part of it is going to make it a pain in the butt when I want to change something system-wise, hehe.

@Mister: Wow, that actually makes a ton of sense! (Sorry if that seems offensive, I totally didn’t intend for it to be.. I just never thought of learning readings like that, haha) However, that response does bring another question up, though. Where do you find the vocab to study? Sorry for that poorly phrased question, but I mean, do you go through books, newspapers, manga, video games and such to find words to study?

I know my complete and utter noobiness is showing through, but thanks in advance!:D

What about learning the pronunciations for the Kanji? I’ve read in other topics on this forum that not a lot of people like the second book in the series; So how do you (specifically MisterM, since you’ve finished the first book) get to know the reading of the Kanji?

Sorry for kind of hi-jacking the thread. >.>

@Tori “SNES” stands for “Super Nintendo Entertainment System”. You know, the console the original Super Mario World was on? Please tell me you’ve played on that console before?
If not, I weep for you. You poor, poor soul. :3

I’m sorry, I just had to chime in to say that the Dreamcast is the best console ever.

    K, I’m done.
    :D

EdiT: It’s the console in my forum picture, too!

Yeah, just as I suspected, it was the tech school’s craptastic Internet. I can log in fine from my home Internet. Thanks for the suggestion, Hashi! I’ll definitely try that at my tech school to see if it can work from there.

@Armando I too used to think iPads suck, but then my school gave use them to use for, well, school of course, and I have to say and agree with Mark that they are quite epic. :DDD

Have you taken a gander at this post on Tofugu?
    http://www.tofugu.com/2011/08/03/japanese-and-how-youre-doin-it-wrong-tips-from-john-sensei/

As for podcasts, I’m listening to this one: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/id438036031 .

Since I’m a beginner, I listen for pronunciation more than anything. Also, I get that quick burst of excitement when I hear something I already know such as じゃありません or sometimes random vocab words.

    Hope this helped!

I know it’s not as interesting as The Simpsons or Friends, but you could download a program called ‘LiveStation’ and and watch live Japanese TV. The only thing I can seem to get is The Shop Channel right now, which I do have to say, is a bit interesting.

@dana: Thanks for the welcome!:DD and yeah, I hope to be working for some decently sized company, or even start my own!

@Tom: GSL is a tourny that I haven’t really seen much of. The only on I have seen though is the majority of the GSPA on HuskyStarcraft and Day[9]‘s YouTube channels. I’m trying to decide between Zerg or Protoss. It’s a really tough decision, because I love them both so much. To answer your question, yes I watch a crapton more SCII than I play (xD), which I’ve been trying to get better recently.
    Also, nerds unite!:D

@hashi: Thanks for the welcome! I’m going to be trying to get some more practice in today, so I’ll definitely add you. What race do you typically play? Like I said in my reply to Tom, I’m in a dilemma betweet the ‘toss and zerg at the moment.

EdiT:: I don’t know if anyone noticed, but in my avatar picture, I’m holding a Dreamcast. The Sega Dreamcast was release this very day 12 years ago on 9/9/99. If you’re a gamer, you must take time to celebrate this momentous anniversary. Here’s to you, Dreamcast! May the Dream never die! :DD
