Thanks Joel. That makes more sense now. Context is a little hard for me to decipher at this point but I guess that’s half the fun of learning the language.

Hello everyone, I recently started using lang-8 and I received this message in a friend request that I’m having trouble translating. I’m up to season 4 at this point and I know some of what this message says (I’m also using jisho to try and fill in the gaps) but I could use help. The message reads:

“はじめまして! ユウジロウといいます。 最近このサイトを使うようになりました。 皆さんの日本語学習のお手伝いと、自分の英語の学習に役立てたいと思います! よろしく!! Let’s keep in touch! And Happy new year!”

    What I think it says:

“Hello nice to meet you. I am called Yujiro (my name is Yujiro). Recently I’ve started using this site. Everyone’s Japanese language assistant (?), I think being an English language student is useful (?). Regards.”

I’m having the most difficulty with the last sentence. I know what most of the words mean but putting it all together is a bit tough. I’d like to know what it actually says and why the grammar works the way it does. Any help would be appreciated. ありがと!

Awesome, good luck Tim. Take a picture of everyone’s face when you bust out your Japanese for the first time.

Hello and welcome, congratulations on finishing Season 1! I, like you, started learning Japanese partly out of boredom and it will deffinitely soak up a lot of your time if you let it. Just be sure you don’t become bored of the thing that’s supposed to alleviate your boredom, know what I mean? Best of luck with your studies.

That’s awesome Hashi, small world. I’ve seen Bonobo but I’ve yet to catch Emancipator live, though it’s deffinitely on my to-do list considering I listen to his stuff all-the-time.

Hi Xalphenos, it’s awesome that you’ve kept your dream alive all this time. I’m sure that between your dedication and Koichi’s guidance you’ll do very well. Best of luck in your studies.

Right on Matt, keep up the good work! Season 2 is a lot of fun (I just finished it a few days ago) just don’t get too caught up on the vocab. I made the mistake early on of getting bogged down trying learn all the vocab perfectly despite the fact that season 2 is more focused on grammar… oops. Best of luck.

Hello Pantelis, I’m guessing that you already speak two languages fluently so it’s very impressive that you are studying Japanese as well! That’s hardly what I would call “lazy.” But still, I hope you can stay motivated and make your daydreams a reality.

    Cassandra,

My ultimate goal is to work on either the business or the legal side of the entertainment industry, as such I’m kind of torn between getting an MBA or going to law school to pursue a concentration in intellectual property. I also wouldn’t mind working for a company like Apple or Google because they are often at the forefront of technology, and technology drives intellectual property. I have some soul searching to do, but I think learning Japanese could be a great additional skill to have in either of these areas. :D

    AikiBujin,

As far as the music I’m into listening to goes I like just about everything from “classical” (I put that in quotes because most people tend to apply the term “classical” to just about and western art music e.g. music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Post-Romantic periods) music, jazz, rock, ska, blue grass, soul, pop, EDM, etc. Seriously it would take less time to list the music I’m not into, which includes most mainstream country and hip-hop music and I guess any black metal/death metal/pigsqueel screaming stuff. And my opinion on those genres is simply that I don’t enjoy listening to them, but generally I don’t engage in discussions of what aught and aught not exist in music, to each his own.

And as  far as the music I make goes, currently I’ve been working on a lot of Glitch Hop, because the Glitch Mob is one of my primary influences, as well as and House-ish type stuff. If I had my way I’d be writing more Trip Hop (think Emancipator/Bonobo) and DnB though. When I was younger I played in rock/ska bands cause I played guitar, trumpet and french horn. I only really play the guitar now and not as well as sixteen year old me would have liked. There is a bit more to the story but I feel like this has gone on too long as it is.

    Do you write any music?
