Today a Danish teacher teaching at Tohoku University did a presentation about studying there. Pretty interesting, and I thought it was an excellent way to make a fool of myself, (to be honest I can’t remember why I thought of doing this), either way I wanted to ask a question, so I thought why not ask in Japanese? Well, I went with the idea, and said this:
質問があります。まず、先生は日本語が話せますか。

It then turned out he couldn’t and just threw a sentence at me, which he must have gotten used to saying a lot. I can’t remember exactly what he said, but basically it was that he wanted me to speak English. So I went ahead and asked my question in English, only for him to then say that it was fine and I could’ve just spoken in Danish.
Was pretty fun, and the look from all the other students was priceless :P – and Tohoku looked pretty interesting.
