I was sorting my bookmarks out and found a bookmark to this, so thought it was time for an update! ^^
Looking back I can see my last goal was to complete RTK. I have been done with that for some time now, and I am glad that I got around to doing it.
My next goals are:
-Finish core 2k in 5-6 months. The speed at which I can go through it will be determined by exams this year.
-Pass JLPT 4 this summer ^^
-Get around to making ½-1h fully comprehensible audio. (no time frame yet)http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

鬱 is the 常用漢字 with the most strokes, and is build of many primitives.

So to answer your actual question. Yes, words will start to be made up of more than 2 kanji. From my experience with a vocab of around 1000~words I would say 2 & 1 kanji for a word is the most common, but you will definitely see words with more kanji. The words with the most kanji are combined nouns. The only one I can think of right now is 年度学位記授与式 because I saw it today ^^.-

I have been confused as well by similar words recently, because Core 2k kept giving me a ton of words and calling them all president, so I went ahead and asked on lang-8 last week. I was only confused with 3 though.
This is what feedback I got(if it is of any use)

違いは説明が難しいです。
例えば、アメリカの大統領、会社の会長、政党の総裁って使います。②
大統領／会長／総裁の違いって、説明しにくいですねぇ。
－大統領は、「連邦行政の長、国家元首」と辞書に出てきます。
やっぱりアメリカ大統領、ロシア大統領etc、が例ですかね。
－総裁は、日本の政党のトップ(責任者)や団体のトップで呼ぶ場合が多いと思います。
－会長は、「仕事を統括し、代表」する人。
普通、会社社長より上の役職の人を指すことが多いですね。
学校なら、生徒会長。生徒会の長のことです。③
大統領
共和国の元首会長
会を代表する人総裁
機関の長だそうです。よくわかりません。とりあえずわかるのは、大統領は国の役職にしか使われないということでしょうか。（苦笑）
Aside from these, 2 more words having to do with leadership of some sort come to mind:
社長 – president of a company

Board member, officer, official, executive… As you say yourself it seems to not have one specific meaning, but to cover a wider variety of roles in a company :/ Now I am confused as well -_-Might be good to try this out! Currently the only Japanese thing I am watching on a regular basis is AKBingo(Missing has poisoned me), and that is not so much for learning as it is for entertainment :3 But the frustration of not understanding sometimes lead to long study sessions to figure out what the heck is going on – so much slang… I will give this a try, thanks for sharing :)

Today I learned that shrib has a maximum number of lines, so all my notes from yesterday are gone :( Having more than one shrib link kind of defeats the purpose of it :/
I recommend a smartphone and the anki app. That is all you need.
