There was a “contest” earlier this year, where they asked people reading Tofugu to write their recommendations for tools/books to use for learning Japanese. They choose random winners, but prices weren’t anything big.
There is a lesson about it somewhere, and from what I remember it can translate in to roughly “for something/someone”
as in
この部屋には大きすぎる
It’s too big for this room- This reply was modified 12 years, 11 months ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
You are the more experienced of us, so you will know it better than me, but I personally think that when you know how to write the kanji, it is easier to imagine the exact form of the kanji, which sometimes might help you telling 2 almost exact kanji apart. But the real question is if it is worth the time to be learning the stroke order ^^

I would say that it will leave you at a disadvantage later on. If you don’t know how to write the kanji, it will be hard to tell them apart once you know enough. Try imagining not being able to write English by hand? Wouldn’t that be a disadvantage?
You could get by with not knowing how to write kanji since most things are written by computer, but I would say it is a disadvantage, but if it is worth the effort is something that you will have to decide yourself ^^
I can’t see my self knowing Japanese, but not being able to write it by hand, so while going through RTK I have decided to write each kanji at least 5 times, which I can see paying off when it comes to memorization as well :D
Writing won’t come more naturally if you wait. The more kanji you know the easier it will be to confuse things with each other :P@Missing
My handwriting is equally awe full: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5223862/Photo%2006-12-11%2016.12.55.jpgWhat are you writing with?
I am using a pencil :p
RTK is going great, really happy that I bought the book and started doing it ^^ Once I have done RTK I can finally stop learning words in their hiragana form, and learn them in a proper way. I am looking forward to that :D
Even the higher stroke kanji can be learned easily, though I haven’t learned anything above 19 stroke yet …How can you say years when you started on TextFugu at about 2 months a go?…
You are just starting to hit conscious incompetence that is all. It is something we have all been through ^^
You will start learning to live with it soon enough :P- This reply was modified 12 years, 11 months ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
well I am busy with classes ^^

Some places around the world it is held 2 times year, check the link to figure it out :)
Inventing stories for words is a no-go… You are to learn around 10k words, and there is no way to learn them other than straight up memorization. It makes sense to do it with kanji, seeing as you only need to learn 2000, but having stories for all words just doesn’t work. With time you will learn train your memory, and you will start to see patterns, which will increase your learning speed.
When doing a story for a word, how are you going to know which word it is you need, when all other words in the sentence could also be the one you are looking for? Just learn them straight up using SRS, and everything will be fine.well Denmark is kind of socialist country, so I guess it is different everywhere else in the world ^^
I get paid for attending uni, I can’t even imagine having to pay for it yourself… Seems so odd to me
So today I reached 100 kanji on RTK, feeling like RTK is the way to go when it comes to kanji, it is so much easier than textfugu, and once I am done I will know the meaning of all kanji ^^ Looking forward to that :D
Did a lesson about と思う, and will do a lang-8 entry to get some training with it later – will post here once I am done :)If anyone are actually reading this, here is a little fun(and easy) sentence taken from freshverse.com ‘s stream ^^
see if you can translate.右がパチンと打てますね
パチン = with a snap
The kanji is easy, so there shouldn’t be a need to be looking up!- This reply was modified 12 years, 12 months ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
Which OS do you have?
Learning the word strawberry seems rather useless, so I would say just skip it.
Now with a new name due to the other Mark complaining, and since he was here first I will just change mine over ^^
Not done anything other than reviews due to well… The fact that it is friday and I have better stuff to do ^^At least you aren’t begging for money ^^
