Can’t you download google IME for iOS? I know it sucks at kanji recognition, but it is much better than nothing.
I honestly don’t know much about the programs you talk about, but I have done some research on language schools, and it seems like tuition and housing fee(home stay) costs around 700,000JPY-1,000,000JPY for half a year.

RPGs are probably the worst games to play if you are a beginner. You won’t understand anything, so a game that relies on story is not the right choice.

Also, if you have been to Japan you will notice how idols are in commercials, in a lot of magazines, in a lot of TV shows, in the news etc.. Idol culture is “real life”. Even on the TV-show missing linked to there once was an AKB member on, and that is probably one of the best resources to learn about how to handle different situations and how to speak natural Japanese.
yep. 10k vocab is only basic fluency, native fluency is 20k-30k words.
