“The new lessons page isn’t my favorite. I really miss having the ability to mouse over a chapter, and see the title of the chapter. It helped me see where I was going, and what I could expect. It also made it easier to find where I left off.
Any chance we can get that back?”
Ditto.
If we’re throwing opinions about the contents page around, I miss the original with the wacky images next to each lesson. But really I’m cool with whatever – as long as I can get at the lessons I’m happy :)
Yep, that sorted it :) Thanks Koichiさん, you rule!
Tried installing Droid Sans font, did not make a difference there, but did make the dashboard and lessons page look different (nicer).
Damn, afraid not.
Don’t know if it’s any use or not but here’s a screenshot showing what chrome computes the style as via “inspect element” - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29536575/fugufonts2.PNG
tried switching encoding to utf-8 and stuff, think it’s using arial font – but my knowledge of fonts and encoding is sub-optimal at best.
It may even be specific to my pc, I think it was this PC I had to do some crazy stuff to get fonts and IME working in the first place.
Kanji seem to be displayed ok in most but not all places. weirdly some places that do and don’t show the kanji are showing the same computed font.
If there’s any more info i can give, let me know.
I hate to be the first person to mention a problem, and I certainly hope you will get some good rest before looking at this – but since the update I’m getting a lot of squares appearing in the text – I’m using Chrome on Win XP pro, tried hard refreshing already – here’s a link to a screenshot illustrating the problem:
I can’t give any specific suggestions, as I’ve never been, but I generally find a good way to explore a place is to go geocaching – I’ve seen some wonderful places through ‘caching that I wouldn’t have otherwise.
Gigatron:
Not sure if this counts (as it was hardly a proper attempt at transliteration) but within the Transformers fandom, there was an artist by the name of Patrick Lee working on the Transformers comics who became particularly notorious for being, well, an arrogant twat.He decided it’d look really cool to “transliterate” his name in katakana on his website. And his super-cool transliterated name was? “ミチヤメノテヒ フナナ”. Yes, Michiyamenotehi Funana. Clearly the sad result of using a “katakana” font that switched Latin characters with kana:
ミチヤメノテヒ フナナ
PATRICK LEEAnd many lulz were had.
Lol, that is priceless, and definitely counts :) Not familiar with his work, I’m more of an original G1 UK comics purist – Target 2006 and all that. He’s no Geoff Senior that’s for sure!
Someone over on the wanikani forum recommended world order, and boy am i glad they did, listening to it (and watching it) right now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDOPNLzEFH0sorry if it’s already been posted on this thread…
kanjiman8:
This confused me too. I can only think は is used instead of が in the question as the person asking the question is unable to identify what he/she is referring to. So the emphasis switches to the do you hate part.In return, the person being asked the question, identifies what the person asking the question is referring to by saying they hate it.
This is just a guess and could be completely wrong. I’d like to know if anyone can give a more certain answer.
Yggbert:
I imagine in the second it just puts further emphasis on the object because it’s unidentified? Thanks both :) I don’t think that’s it though – perhaps I should have also included the other question from that section, which is
Q. わたしのくるまはすきですか?
A. No, I hate your car. Translation →
いいえ、あなたのくるまがきらいです
“Do you LIKE my car?”
“No, I hate YOUR CAR.”Same thing except it’s very clear what we’re talking about – the car. To me
“Do you LIKE my car?”
“No, I HATE your car.”
would have made more sense.Sorry, should have included that part to start with.
CHALLENGE APPEARS TO BE WORKING!
noboru (Feb. 8, 2012 – Feb. 14, 2012)
Challenge Type: Fire Fighter Challenge
Description: Looking for a challenge for your office mates? Skip the elevator and see who can go up the most flights of stairs!
Admin message: As the last challenge didn’t work, here’s a new one. No restrictions on entry this time, and a week to sign up before it starts – can you RISE to the challenge and CLIMB a load of stairs?
4 days until start
You make a good point :) there are still over 70 invites left, people!
Now if we can only get the group challenge thing to actually work. It still seems to be broken.
youngmug you’re very welcome!
Oh, that’s odd, I’ll admit a lot of the quests are like that, but there’s a few like “Let’s Go For A Hike!” too – does that one appear in the list for you?
It may also be worth looking on the forums and asking for suggestions on preparing for long distance walks. The community’s pretty helpful!Joel, what kind of thing were you hoping for? If it’s of any use to you I’m a big fan of bodyweight exercises – the programme I’m doing is called “You are your own gym” or YAYOG for short, based on a book by a guy called mark lauren – check out the group for it here if you like the sound of it.
Hatt0ri, way to go! that’s an awesome goal.
Reiden, totally agree! Also, ルイ, I think the more intense the workout the less boring it will be. My workouts are pretty short but intense. I don’t have time to get bored!
(I still can’t believe I get to say things like “my workout”)with one important difference – you don’t get stuffed into a little red and white ball after each workout.
