Hmm. Forty-something mother of teenagers finally taking the initiative to really learn Japanese. My mom is Japanese born and raised. I spoke only Japanese until kindergarten when we moved to a U.S. military base and had to learn English, but forgot almost all of my Japanese. What I do know (from my mom) is typically super-informal, not very feminine, and rather rude, phrases of Japanese. Since college, have taken a couple of continuing education classes and tried self-learning, but it just wasn't clicking (of course, that was before internet). Mom doesn't help much, as she can't always explain WHY something is the way it is, though she is a handy dictionary. Going back to visit relatives in Japan in summer 2015 and want to be able to hold somewhat proficient conversations. Hoping TextFugu will gather together all the random bits of Japanese language and kanji that I have learned in the past and help it to all make sense.
