Because I use moleskines for my sketchbook/artwork, I really enjoyed the tiny red one I used to keep my notes in from Season 1. I agree with Zach, their wonderful in their availability for color, cover weight, and size. They also are a lot more substantial and “luxurious” than, say, a fivestar.
However, I’ve found myself in love with plain “brown bag” colored spiral bound notebooks from Staples. I think they’re called 100% recycled sugarcane. I doodle the subject all over them in hand written fonts with well thought out typography and designs..I’ll put up a pic when I get a chance.
I find making it more of a journal and less of a notebook really helps me with textfugu. Even when life knocks me off my j-game (yes, I legit call it that, judge me), when I’ve made it an art project, and connected one passion to another, that investment really pushes me forward.
And in terms of pens, I just use my college girl organization arsenal: color staedtler pens, highlighers, and regular ol’ black ball point.
Aaaa~ Hi Benjamin!
Oh don’t lower yourself like that! Although High School was a long time ago on my end, you are far more driven than I was! I’m a big dreamer so I wanted to somehow live the college life, study abroad twice, and hide a dog in my dorm. Haha maybe I’ll run into you in Japan this summer, I’m officially going on a trip. If you do go, let me know how it turns out for you please!
I must agree with you, as a visual person, ideographic languages get me all worked up haha. I once thought I’d like Chinese, but it doesn’t appeal to my ear. I’m also a musician, and I tend to not languages that don’t appeal to my ear like German and Chinese. I love Korean, and the other romance languages alone with French. I got into language through music/poetry; it’s how my French teacher drilled stuff in our head.
:3 and I also understand being set apart due to the hobby. It took 4 years to find one person at my school who loves Japan and doesn’t happen to “kind of like Samurai Champloo”. Granted, I’m into Dramas, but meh!
Hashi:
Hi Callie, welcome to TextFugu! What sort of Japanese art are you interested in?Good luck with your studies!
Thank You for the welcome and the well wishes Hashi!
In terms of art, I’ve always loved ukiyo-e prints and have been studying it’s influence on Western art and the Art Nouveau Movement. My favorite artists are Utamaro Kitagawa and Ogata Gekko, but I like modern artists like Takashi Murakami, Yumi Sugiyama (from Heartsdales( and Yayoi Kusama’s abstract surreal sculptures. I’m always on the look out for more artist to follow if you have suggestions!
