So I’ve finally got some free time for at least a few days. Went straight to my anki reviews. Had 500 to get through and did it in blocks of 20 over 2 hours. I was pleased in a way as I was able to retain 90% of everything. The things I had forgotten were recent Kanji vocab I had learnt before taking a break.

I’ve been looking after my sisters kids since last week. Can’t even fit in 5 minutes of Anki reviewing. Looking forward to them going back and pick up where I left of.
I’m finding these emails very annoying too. Go to your TextFugu profile page, scroll down to the “bbPress Digest Emails” section at the bottom, and untick the “Daily digest” box. This should stop the emails being sent.
Been listening to:
JK lol. I’ve actually been listening to music by 梅林茂 (Shigeru Umebayashi.)

You’re welcome. As your a TextFugu member, you can sign up for a free WaniKani account here. You get free access to the first 3 levels of Kanji, but after that you will need to either pay a monthly or yearly fee. Use the code “wanikani heart textfugu” for 50% off.

Depends on what you plan to do. If your not going to be living in Japan anytime soon and won’t find yourself in a situation where you need to hand write then it’s probably best to skip it for now.
If you will be living in Japan, or you just want to learn it anyway then there’s no harm in doing so. Whether or not helps you remember Kanji better, is down to each person. Some say it helps, others say it doesn’t.
Despite the popularity of handwriting something becoming less useful (check out http://www.tofugu.com/2010/08/27/kanji-amnesia-and-why-its-okay-to-forget-kanji/ ), it is still a good skill to have. You never know when you might need to write something. Although occasions like that might be rare, it’s always good to be literate in a language you’re learning.
If you do plan to skip learning to write for now, the best way to learn Kanji is here on TF using Anki, WaniKani (TextFugu’s sister site), or a method like RTK (although not suited to everyone, check out the many threads on here and other websites about it).
Similar to Tsetycoon’s explanation in this thread: http://www.textfugu.com/bb/topic/onyomi-and-kunyomi/
Yup, it’s a mistake. Delete the と and it will match the audio.
@ Aiki
I don’t mind where we talk either. My email address is now on my profile page. This thread certainly contains a wealth of interesting and useful information. You also wrote some useful info in another thread. I’ll fav both for future reference.
I agree with missing. Mnemonics help out in the beginning, but you need to be able to recognize and recall any word so it becomes second nature.
@ Hashi
I remember when that song was getting played all over the radio and on the music channels well over 10 years ago now. I like the vid too.
Name? ^^ :D
A mobile version of TextFugu is bound to be launched at some point. I agree that having both versions of the site would be beneficial. These new changes aren’t even V3 of TF. This is 2.5 IIRC. I wonder if Koichi still plans to eventually ditch WordPress for something else?
@ Koichi
Ah, thought it was something to do with account types. Thanks for clearing that up.
Really liking these new forum features. A lot easier to post clickable links now. I have noticed that the Quote button doesn’t seem to be working. What else do you have planned for the forums? :D
