July 29, 2012 at 8:03 am in reply to: Re-doing decks: Does Ultimate Vocab cover + Kanji cover mostly everything? #33724
I’ve been making my own sentences since season 4 from the examples in the chapters. It definitely helps me to remember vocab and kanji.
My Anki decks are the following:
Radicals
Kanji
Kanji Vocab
Ultimate Decks
Adverbs
Adjectives
Verbs
Nouns
All other vocab (smaller decks like colours, identity, jobs, family, etc.)
Custom words (words in example sentences that weren’t included in nouns deck)
Custom Sentences (ones I’ve taken from chapters season 4 on wards)
Katakana VocabI even take the sentences from the work sheets and add them into the Custom Sentences deck.
Your welcome. V3 of TF is in the works so they may be waiting til then to fix all the mistakes/errors with Kanji, Vocab, missing audio, decks, etc.
From what I’ve been reading, it looks as if the Pimsleur courses are mainly aimed at people who only want to speak a language and not learn to read and write it. All of us here want to be able to do that plus read and write. It might be the case that a lot of what you learn especially in the early stages you would have already covered here on TF or other resources.
The first thing that strikes me about Pimsleur is the way it’s marketed. It reminds me of Rosetta Stone and the price tag is hefty too. There’s better resources out there than RS, like here for example. I feel it’s probably the same with Pimsleur too. You’ll learn exactly the same stuff you would on RS and Pimsleur with other resources, plus it’ll be cheaper too.
To sum up, I agree with missing. Definitely not worth paying for it.
You should email me andrew. My email is osakajin8@gmail.com
If you have Skype we can also talk there.
You’re right. Koichi has made a mistake there. There should be no だ in that sentence. I double checked what he wrote in that chapter on casual adjectives:
“Good so far? With casual i-adjectives, all you need to do is remove the です. That’s it. End the sentence there and don’t look back. So, if you want to make the above sentences “casual” all you have to do is remove the です.”
He also wrote that Nouns and Na Adjectives conjugate the following ways:
Present/Positive: だ
Past: だった
Negative: じゃない
Past Negative: じゃなかったOn the worksheet you can add a label and put in the correct sentence.

Sorry to invade your private chat here, but just saying: I’ve seen Ip Man 1 and 2.The first one is definitely betterNo need to apologize :D. I agree, Ip Man 1 is better. Better story and fight scenes.
@ Neil
No worries. It’s easier when things are split up and not all condensed together. I find it doesn’t get overwhelming.@ thisiskyle (from earlier)
Good to hear you’ll be going back. How much longer left til you leave? The spiritual well being/fitness side also interests me too. I know MA isn’t all about combat. Your mind can be your best weapon and best offense. I hope other people will find this information useful too. If you’d like we can talk more over email or Skype.
@ Neil
You can choose selective study and tell Anki not to include that deck when reviewing and then review it later. An even better idea which I did, was to make the Katakana vocab a sepearte deck entirely. This made things less messy. Seeing as how Katakana isn’t as important as learning Kanji or other vocab, I can study it once I’ve gone through my other cards.@ Aiki
Already replied to it. Thanks again.@ Hashi
Ah, gotcha. Guess it’s started already?Good to hear. Who actually did the review of the sheets? You or Koichi?
Glad you’re ok Giga. It’s good that insurance will cover the cost of repairs. My town has no connection with Asian culture at all. Waiting for the day I get to leave and live somewhere I’ll enjoy :)
Welcome to TF!
Thanks for the detailed information you have provided. Also, thanks for taking the time out to write all that up. I appreciate it. Just finished reading through it and you’ve answered a lot of questions I had. I’m still keen on doing Wing Chun but like the idea of combining it with another MA. Ideally I’d like to be able to defend myself in a one on one situation but am open to knowing how to defend myself in more dangerous scenarios.
I’ve seen Ip Man 1 and 2. Love both of them but I thought the first one is better. More powerful story. I find videos like this interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYivNC62Plo. It fascinates me to read up and watch the history of it.
On Jet Li’s Wiki page, I stumbled across an interesting section on his views on MA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_li#Views_on_life_and_martial_arts
That’s good to know Hashi. Looks like it’s all ok though?
Nicely done Giga. I’m still waiting for the day I have a proper conversation with a Japanese person in real life. Two things stopping me at the moment. My ability and location. Sorry to hear about your accident. You doing ok now?
