I’m kind of on the fence on this subject. I do want to learn to write Kana and more importantly Kanji, but I don’t want to spend too much time on it, seeing as I won’t need to write in Japanese until I’m either in Japan or doing a class.

I have the same problem. I have to restart my pc after turning it on in order to display Japanese characters. It never used to do this. When it doesn’t display the proper characters, I also just see rectangle boxes. I haven both the Microsoft and Google IME’s installed.

I’ve been trying to find out why this is happening but haven’t found a concrete answer yet. One theory is the fonts get corrupted somehow.

I think I might just re install Windows 7 again. I do that anyway every few months.

In a couple of the Kanji vocab decks, the tags got mixed up and a lot of the vocab from Kanji vocab 4.8 was included in Kanji vocab 4.7. Also, one of the Kanji in Kanji 4.8 included a radical that wasn’t in the level 4 radical deck. The level 4 radical deck also didn’t include the radical for husband. These are all minor mistakes which can easily be sorted out yourself if you know how to use anki properly.

I’ve also been making custom sentence decks since the practice pages stopped in Season 3. This is a good way to keep going over new material so you don’t forget it.

I’m sure these mistakes will be fixed in due time. I love TF and wouldn’t of got this far with my studies without it.

Glad I could help you guys out. If you need anymore help don’t hesitate to ask.

I noticed that too on the Nouny Adverbs page http://www.textfugu.com/season-4/adverbs/5-4/.

I added in the missing 8 myself. As a quick fix, go to Google translate, type in a word, click the speaker icon and a native Japanese speaker (should be a woman as I’ve never heard a mans voice) will say the word. You can save the recording and add it into your anki media folder. Do this for all the words you added in yourself and add the audio to the correct word.

No idea why this and along with other problems haven’t been fixed yet. I know TF is supposed to be relaunching into V3 soon, so maybe he’s just going to sort out all the issues in the relaunch. Would of been nice if he gave some example sentences of the words ぜんぶ and すべて too.

You might get better responses here http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quedisplay.html

Japan-Guide forum is a lot busier than this forum and covers a wide variety of areas. TF is mainly for learning Japanese.

    @ Carlos
It might be a good idea to do that. You should take notes on each chapter though. That way you can pull out the most important bits and condense it into a page or so. Makes reviewing and jogging your memory easier and better use of time.

Each person works at a difference pace and has different time available to study. In my case, I started Season 1 back in March and it’s just gone mid July and I’m onto Season 5. The thing that slowed me down was learning long lists of vocab. I’ve had a lot of free time this year though so If I was more busy, I’d probably be around Season 3 or 4.

The main thing is being able to recall what you’ve already learnt.

As for the dip, I haven’t really felt discouraged learning more grammar, vocab and kanji. If anything, It makes me more determined to get closer to my goal.

There’s already an Anki problems thread but it’s not stickied so it’s easy to miss http://www.textfugu.com/bb/topic/anki-problems-thread/

As for your question, are you sure you’re importing the deck and not adding? Which deck was it?

Michael Lowrey: Doing the same.I also need to get back to my genki textbook, I can tell that I am forgetting some vocab.

Speaking of which has anyone made a anki deck out of the second edition or one with first and second edition vocab?Sure could save me a lot of time.

Open up Anki, click File > Download > Shared Deck. Type Genki in the search bar and you’ll find loads of decks with Genki 1 & 2 Kanji, Vocab, etc.

    To sum up:

    On’yomi – Chinese reading of a Kanji
    Kun’yomi – Japanese reading of a Kanji

Kun’yomi is pretty much just vocab though. If you need any more help, don’t hesitate to ask.
