Andy Murray fails to win a major grand slam again. I feel today was his best shot at wining Wimbledon. Nadal and Djokovic were already out and Federer hasn’t been the same player he once was. Saying that, Federer didn’t let the pressure get to him and deserved to win. 7 Wimbledon wins and World no. 1 again. Not bad for the R man. Maybe he’s not giving up his throne quite yet :D

Japanese doesn’t use tones. It’s not like Mandarin or Cantonese where using different tones changes the meaning of a word.

You can however ask a question by raising your tone. eg. He went outside. If you say that normally your stating something. If you raise your tone, it can sound like your asking a question eg. He went outside?

In an update from a few weeks ago, Koichi mentioned something about making a built in srs app like Anki to use with TF. If this goes ahead, that would mean no more decks to download and everything is stored on TF’s server. This would eliminate problems people are having such as audio not playing and media not syncing with iOS and Android Anki apps.

No worries. Happy to help. Another theory I have is, if your just stating facts and not being asked a question then you use が to identify what you’re talking about. eg 寿司が好きですよ

If someone’s asking a question, they will emphasize the like/hate part, and it’s down to the person answering the question to identify what the speaker is talking about.

This confused me too. I can only think は is used instead of が in the question as the person asking the question is unable to identify what he/she is referring to. So the emphasis switches to the do you hate part.

In return, the person being asked the question, identifies what the person asking the question is referring to by saying they hate it.

This is just a guess and could be completely wrong. I’d like to know if anyone can give a more certain answer.

Despite it saying that, towards the end of the article it also says this “Despite these warnings, the FBI estimates that there are still more than 277,000 computers infected worldwide and about 64,000 in the United States. ”

I agree Giga. Who are they to tell us where we want to buy stuff from? As it so happens, Asian movies have better editions in Asia than NA and Europe. You’d think they’d abandon this practice to help stop piracy, but it only makes people do it more.

Sony make the PS3 region free for games but not for blu-rays. I don’t see the logic behind that either.

Agree with what zelda and carlos said. You shouldn’t use honorifics on yourself. I suppose if Blake said something like “I’m pretending to be Ellen San” then that might be ok.

No worries. Glad I can help out. As for your problem, not much more I can think of that can help. You could uninstall Anki and start over, but that would be a huge hassle and a bit of a chore to re add all your decks again.

I have that same sentence patterns book too. Plan to use it when I’m done with TF. It’s being released again because it went OOP as the publisher had shut down.

I also have All About Particles as well as A Dictionary of Japanese Particles, and All About Particles.

It’s strange a lot of people are having problems with anki. I’ve only had problems with the audio not playing if the actual audio file is missing from the deck. Such as the case in the katakana deck.

    The steps I do are:
    1) download the anki archive deck from TF (example kanjivocab4-7.zip)
    2) unzip the archive and put the extracted folder in a custom made folder such as “My Extracted Anki Decks”
    3) open up anki and click import if I’m making a new deck or adding to a deck that’s already there.
    4) I find my custom made folder where i’ve extracted the anki decks. I choose the deck i want to add. So, for example kanji vocab 4-7.anki . there should also be a folder called kanji vocab 4-7.media . this contains the audio files.
    5) anki imports the . anki file and the audio to the already made kanji vocab deck.

Are you sure you’re definitely importing and not adding? I remember Koichi saying that if you press add it will affect the media files playing.

In the “My Documents” folder on your C:drive or whatever, there will be an anki folder. Every time you import a new deck, anki creates a copy of the .anki files and media folders and stores it there. Check this drive every time to see if it has indeed done that.

If you’re still having problems, I don’t know what else to suggest.
