I don’t know about recommendations, but I can agree with the update thing. However I will say that I have been away since about December 2011. [My high school offers Japanese through your Junior year.] In that time, the changes have been so immense I barely recognize the place anymore. In fact, I was about to post a topic asking for some briefing about the new stuff.
As far as him continuing to update, I just read his post on the blog about frontend/backend stuff. I’m assuming you’ve read it. If not: Post I decided to comb the comments section to see if he himself had said anything. About 11 days ago, he replied to a few comments that the backend stuff just took a long time, but he had NOT in fact dropped off the face of the planet. As a self-proclaimed procrastinator, I can say there have been several projects which I promised people would not take long at all, and actually took forever.
I understand that it’s been 4 months, but if he’s anything like me, he will finish the updates eventually. Timeliness? Well I don’t know about that, but I don’t think TextFugu is done forever.

Lol, yeah I see what you mean. I was never intending to dump him completely. I figured I would just find the radicals in reality, instead of using Koichi-land’s interpretation, but still utilize the Kanji resource that’s built in! :D
Yes.
OMG. Yes.
Too many stories for me. D: They don’t really help me personally at all with remembering.
Thank you for your insight Joel :)
That actually kind of freed me by reminding me that I don’t HAVE to use his system if it doesn’t particularly work for me! Doh! Can’t believe I didn’t think of that earlier…. XD
Oh well, thank you for everyone’s help! I agree that Koichi’s mnemonics are a bit off. Things don’t always go together as they should, and I’m someone who likes to see the big picture. I need to see where things fit, where they came from, and how I use them now, so I think I will use a separate resource for kanji and such. Any recommendations?
Thank you! :) Sorry so late of a reply, but you were right, it was deck confusion. I’ll be sure to be more careful in the future! :D
And, no I’m not very advanced. Just starting Kanji and Radicals, still trying to wrap my head around the two. Somehow trying to distinguish and remember all the mnemonics is messing with my head, and I’m attempting to find the happy medium.

kanjiman8: He said in a blog update a few months ago, he wants to use a built in SRS for TextFugu. I don’t mind using Anki but I think it would sort out all those issues some people have with Anki like media not playing. A WaniKani integration makes sense. TF for lessons and grammar. WaniKani for Kanji and vocab.
I personally, can’t stand Anki. I use it because I need to review, but I just don’t like the way it does everything. SRS is okay, it’s just Anki. I don’t know why. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE something built in, but I’m afraid that I won’t be able to review even when I’m offline. [There's ONE thing about Anki that I like.] Solutions?
TLDR~ I agree about the bookmark. Progress bar edges on the ‘too impractical’ side of things. Koichi is sort of against the aforementioned quizzes.
Absolutely! I was about to post a new topic about this, but figured I should look around a bit. I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one thinking this. As for the progress bar, it might be difficult because of a.) the aforementioned jumping around and b.) the never-ending flow of lessons that Koichi continues to add. [Thanks Koichi!!!!] On a final note, someone asked about quizzes to test whether or not you know something in addition to the practice. I have talked to Koichi about this before, and he simply mentioned that he didn’t want people to learn just to pass the test. I tend to disagree and figure that if you’re self-teaching, you probably will use the quiz as a way to make sure you really know something. But. That’s just me. Koichi makes the book not me. :/
XD ^^^ Click the link above for Screenshots. My bad for not naming very well.
Thanks for the warm welcome! ^u^ I’m going to Japan because my Grandfather was invited on a business trip and he’s kind enough to take me. We have a guide and all, but it would still be cool to understand what’s going on. :D
I think my favorite part about TextFugu is that it is still a smaller community, and you really get that personal feel from it. Whether that be the way the text is written, the reliability of getting a hold of everyone, or the fact that everyone gets a little welcome from Hashi, professional Starcraft-playing-procrastinator [ ;) ].
