yes, you bet. You can apply what you paid – just email me and I can handle it all via the backend :)
Cheers!
Hey guys and gals~
Big apologies to those who don’t feel like they’re getting enough :( As MisterM suggests you do, always more than happy to give refunds if you don’t think what you’re getting is worth your money. No real set time on the refund either – so even if you’ve been using TextFugu for a year, hit me up and I’ll be more than happy. Unfortunately I can only do as much as I can do, and I do as much as I can do, and although I’m sure the redesigns seeem like all I do it only really lasted for 3 days + 1 day of bug squashing, and then I went right back to writing content again. In fact, the updates were meant almost solely for the new content stuff, including the sentences deck which I thought would be particularly helpful for the more advanced folks :/
I know it can be a rocky ride and I know it can be tough using an unfinished product … especially with someone like me who’s constantly excited to make changes (happens a lot because it can happen a lot, I suppose… not something that big companies with finished products can do – you guys are always emailing me feedback and I’m making changes based off that feedback). Most of the changes here content-wise (Sentences Deck, Better Vocab study, Practice Pages, Why Pages) were because I was getting a lot of emails from people having trouble with Vocab… so I spent some time researching and spent some times coming up with ways to make vocab learning less painful and am adding it in w/ everything else. I mean, to be objective here… I probably do spend half my time trying to make old things better and half my time working on new stuff… I understand that people want new stuff (understandably). But… I don’t work on old stuff to get more new members (when MisterM said all of the income comes from new members he’s kind of right… though I’d give it a 60-40 new-old split these days, so it’s not quite “all”).
But anyways, I work on old stuff because it makes the new stuff better… and it will make it more likely that new people make it to the old stuff, Forever membership and monthly membership alike. When the advanced stuff has the sentences deck… the better vocab study… and the practice pages… it’s going to be so, so good, I think. I’m really excited about it, but I forget that most people don’t have the same thoughts in my head all the time for some reason :p
So dang, yeah. I’m sorry things feel so volatile and I’m sorry to those of you who think there aren’t enough updates (remember the old days of once-a-month updates, though? I do way more than that these days!). Really, though – you know you guys can email me individually too, yeah? Happy to help sort out any problems, give you a refund if you’re unhappy, and more. Happiness > Money any day of the week. If I wanted more money, I’d stop paying people to help me with work (designer/programmer starting next month, fyi… some of you will be particularly happy to hear about that so I stop trying to touch the stuff), I’d stop helping people individually on email for free and create some dumb “pay the teacher to ask questions” program, and I’d raise prices and not offer to let monthly people upgrade to Forever while subtracting what they’ve paid so far. Seriously not like I’m rich or anything :/
P.S. Also sorry it too me so long to respond to this thread… If I’m in the forums, it probably means I have extra time :) If I’m not, it probably means I’m feeling overworked at the moment, almost certainly working on TextFugu content stuff.
P.P.S. Flip them tables! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
P.P.P.S. If I really wanted to get nitty-gritty and spend a lot of time on redesign I would have fixed these input forms for the forum… damn they’re ugly. What’s up with the indented “reply” and “tags” headers?
Sorry to see you go :( Hit me up if I can help you with Japanese if you run into any troubles on your own.
And also, just to clear a few things up…
The last couple months there’s been at least 5 new lessons and quite a bit of kanji…
I spent 3 days working on the redesign (4 if you count bug squashing on Monday), start to finish. All other time has been on other non-redesign-ish things. Redesign was actually pretty minimal (just a few small changes, and fixing some backend things) and mostly to set things up for the increased review chapters, ‘Sentences’ Anki deck, and the practice pages.
I’m sure it seems like there’s a lot of redesign work going on… but I think I spend very little time redesigning in the grand scheme of things :/
If it makes you feel any better a new guy is starting next month, and he will be in charge of design, coding, and so on… that way you know I’ll almost never be touch that kind of thing again… or at least not too often ;)
definitely not planning on shortening anything! Just wanted to make each individual season a little more individual. Smaller bites, better reviews, similar/related content within each season, etc! Mostly just made those changes to make the new practice pages moh’beddah!
oh gosh. yes, it went in spam. I am responding now – so so so so sorry about that :(
1) MisterMさんの猿です。
a. It is MisterM’s monkey
2) ソニーの田中さんです。
a. Tanaka of Sony (i.e. It’s Tanaka who works at Sony… Japanese like to associate themselves with groups).
b. Someone else, because さん is being used and you don’t use さん on yourself.
3) 面白いのを買った
a. (I) bought the interesting one
4) 買ったのを使った
a. (I) used the one I bought
b. How do you know what was bought? (assuming this is part of a conversation)
5) Missingさんのが欲しい。。。
a. I want the one Missing (has)
(maybe Missing had a marker you wanted and so you’re saying you want to use that marker, the one Missing is using).b. It’s assuming that you both know what thing you’re talking about, and it’s dropping the noun that’d normally come after the の. So, those sentences could have been something like “I want the marker Missing has” rather than “I want (the one) that Missing has” – since everyone knows what “the one” is, you can just say の without anything else.
@Mister – Might also be a generic noun (so bad at grammar terms) but I believe this is called “dependent indefinite pronoun” (had to look that up just now, no idea what that means still… I just understand the grammar in my mind :(
6) 漢字を習うのは難しいです。
a. Learning kanji is difficult / the act of learning kanji is difficult7) Winterさんが寿司を食べるのを見た
a. I saw Winter eat sushi / I saw the act of Winter eating sushib. The の is “nominalizing” a sentence. It makes the part that comes before it “the act of ___________.” So, if you add a のを to a verb (for example すしを食べるのを) you’re saying you’re doing something to the act of doing something else.
8) どうして食べているの?
a. Why are you eating?b. Probably a female speaker or a child
c. This sentence ender particle (ね or よ are both sentence ender particles if you don’t know what I’m talking about) either indicates it’s an explanation or adds some emotion to the sentence. This grammar comes from のだ or のです. This use of の is going to be considered casual.
…will allow time for a couple more folks to try, if they want…
only if you want it to be, haha
I’m moving kanji over to the big decks atm, so you’ll want to download that one, I think. Check the 1-2 stroke kanji page, should be downloadable there right now (and other places too, by later today). If you’re reaallly wanting the 3-stroke deck, hit me up with an email and I’ll send you it there!
信じられないだろうが俺は今江戸にいる。
1. What is 信じられないだろうが
“You probably won’t believe _______.” ← The “you” is assumed, since he’s talking to someone (at least, we can assume he is, probably)2. What is 江戸?
“Edo” → Old name for Tokyo3. Anything cool happen in 江戸?
According to Wikipedia, it had 1,000,000 people in 1721, which is more than any other city in the world at the time, apparently.
4. What is 俺は今江戸にいる。
“Right now I’m in Edo”5. What’s the whole sentence? What’s something you can assume happened to this character based off this sentence?
“You probably won’t believe it, but right now I’m in Edo.”
You can assume he is time traveling! Or… that he’s visiting Edo and not time traveling, but that’s no fun.
August 30, 2011 at 12:21 am in reply to: Kanji and Anki tags (new directives I don't understand) #16575hehe, sorry about that. I’m converting things over to the new lists right now, and you’re getting caught in the middle.
Try the download on this page:
http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/1-2-stroke/Or, you could just keep studying normally, though tags won’t be in there for the 4-stroke list you might have…
Waaimz14 looks like you got it!
