In regards to the whole “です” pronunciation thing, the u is actually pronounced depending on where you are in Japan. The majority of people say “dess,” but just to let you know “deh-soo” isn’t strictly incorrect.
Why that would be yon jyu roku? (:
I have a similar resolution… I have been presented with the opportunity to live in Japan over the summer in 2 years. I think I will be living with a host family, speaking only in Japanese. However, I am a bit far away from that advanced of Japanese study, so I have a lot of ground to cover until then.
I will also be taking either the n5/n4 or both, to test myself as ready enough to go xD.
So, my new years’ resolution extends for several years~ Basically just a lot more study in general, like you.(:
November 6, 2012 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Is an IPod Touch a worthwhile Japanese-learning investment? #37147Yes, get an iPod Touch! Those apps would surely help you with your learning, plus I’m sure you would eventually love it to play games and such as well!
However I must point out your ($235-$300) range is a bit ridiculous… 8gb would do fine for your purposes and is only 200$.
Edit: The new ones apparently start at 32 -.-… You could buy a 4th gen model?(:

Nice Japanese! Not to criticize, (hoping to help you learn, haha) what you said first in Japanese wasn’t a “my name is” statement, rather it was an “I am” statement. “My name is” would be something like:
私の名前はライアンです。
Hope this helped!
Wow, that’s awesome. I’m not sure if I could ever learn Russian, it looks confusing.. but to you it’s probably a whole lot easier than English. You’ll be the first one I call if I ever decide to learn Russian, haha. It’s really impressive that you are using a learning resource not in your native tongue! I would fully offer my English skills, as I hope to major in English in college. Not that you necessarily need it! Just, if you ever do. :)
Welcome to the forum! (((o(*゚▽゚*)o))) Do you speak Russian as a first language? Good luck in learning Japanese! TextFugu is a great place to start learning. And yes, Japan is awesome!
こんにちは!What is your purpose for learning?(:
Neither of those resources would I recommend, but if they help you… xD.Welcome to the forums! Good luck studying with TextFugu!<3

I listened to only about the first two minutes. It started really good, then decreased in quality I think…
Here are my suggestions:
1. Don’t slur so much. You slured each syllable together so much, sometimes you stumbled and I couldn’t tell what you said. Focus on saying each sound individually, rather than attempting to slur like you would in English. The natural slur comes in time.
2. Speak with heart! I don’t know if you normally speak like a robot, but it’s definitely not good! Put some feelings behind your words~
Hopefully I didn’t crush you too much :O. Good luck in improving! ♪(´ε` )

Bump. I hope someone solves your problem~
Well good luck! It can get frustrating/ hard but looks like you have a strong reason to fall back on.(:
Welcome! I have a similar goal as you as well. I had been learning Japanese for over a year before I visited Japan, but was still unable to understand anything people said. Except for the occasional です. That experience really motivated me to learn Japanese more hard core, and this will be my 5th year soon, although it has been very sporadic. I hope you learned something from my story! XD The worst thing you can do is look back and wish you had done something different(:
Enjoy TextFugu!
