    @Joel: I had meant the book, but I think having it be a general “real japanese” thread is a better idea.
    I’m going to look into that mainichi shinbun.

    Well the stories are taken from real Japanese writers, so it is fairly high level.
    There are six stories:
    川上弘美：神様
    乙一：昔夕日の公園で
    いしいしんじ：肉やおうむ
    吉本バナナ：ミイラ
    北村薫：百物語
    多和田葉子：かける

    They get progressively difficult.

    Leaving for Japan on March 27 until April 17: 3 weeks! Plan to start in Tokyo, head up to tashirojima for a day, stay the night somewhere around there, go down to Nagoya for a few days, before going to Kyoto for another few days. The last few days will be spent somewhere in Shikoku. Can’t wait!
