What you say is kinda true Mr. M, but I believe koichi when he says that it could help with motivation. He seems like a pretty smart dude.
Came here because it told me to in the first lesson and it was pretty interesting thinking about a real reason why I’m learning Japanese. The culture is cool and everything, and it would be nice to check out their literature, but that isn’t a strong motivator for me.
A year or two ago I lived in Santa Cruz, CA for a while and I had been searching for a martial arts dojo, and hadn’t come across what I was looking for after trying a couple in LA. I found a very authentic dojo teaching the Okinawan maysubayashi style karate and have been very motivated to make karate an ongoing part of my life since. I need to learn Japanese well enough so someday I can travel there and learn from the sensei in his/her native tongue.
Does anyone know how different Okinawan and mainland dialects are, if at all?
