I am 19 years old, enrolled at a school of higher learning and I’m not gonna make myself feel dumb by starting with children’s books. And I never did – I just stuck with the things I want to do the entire time. In my opinion, just try everything (every method) first and don’t be afraid to do it. While I don’t agree with translating as a form of learning/practice, learning from the experience is just as important. Also don’t let it get you down too much. Most of the reason why most of my translating projects stopped completely was because I would constantly feel like I wasn’t good enough. Most of it will still not make sense but continue to learning new words and grammar. Funny enough that you use MMORPG as an example, I wouldn’t use that example but more like for each new thing you learn, I’d use any game that has a “fog” system on the map which things clear up as you go on.

Yeah you should learn some 大阪弁, just to understand it. Its really not that hard to understand if you understand 標準語 enough as its more like a spin off of it. Thats how it is anyway for most dialects.

About names, I’m terrible at remembering them, and expect it to be worse with Japanese names. I’ll do my best, but it is inevitable that I will forget a few, so… how to deal with forgetting someones name in Japan?
Learn how to explain things in Japanese so that you can describe when and where you met the person so that maybe someone can help you or explained the situation enough to someone else. Also, just give a warning ahead of time that you are forgetful of names, just like you are telling us now in English. Ask for a business card if you are doing business, or you might be given one anyway.

But uh yeah, I completed my first day of N2 reviewing. The main weapon of choice (and only affordable choice) is this book and it is split into 20 days with each day having 54 N2 questions. First day, I got 39/52 right which is much better than I what I expected when I finished.
Day 1
So some things that tripped me up were the lack of vocabulary, or rather, I didn’t the readings for it which was the case for 刷る（する）。 There was a bunch of stuff which I just simply over thought like the readings for 屋外 and 勝敗 and a couple of other stuff which was more simple. Will keep that in mind for Day 2. Stuff like 盆地、吸入、and 酸素 I just simply didn’t know. And a few other questions I narrowed down to 2 options and just chose one, which wasn’t the right answer. I also didn’t time myself for 105 minutes but I will for Day 2. The reading passage at the end was incredibly harder than I thought. By 3rd paragraph, I had a fuzzy idea of what was going on and then got completely lost from then on lol. For this part there was 5 questions and at least I was still able to answer 3/5 of them correctly.
