Didn’t read anything. Basically read that Japan is this only place that could have idols, and something about Mark refuting this with facts I believe in, in a wrong manner and I completely believe that they shouldn’t come to the West. If they ever announce an NYC48, I am boycotting that $h!t.

EDIT: ok so I did read this time around (sort of), and I believe that AKB can only work in Japan and in the places abroad where they are stationed (eg. JKT48)

As for a favorite idol I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I mean AKB48 has around 60 members right? and that’s just one group. I’ve watched their videos on youtube, and I can see the appeal, but it’s overwhelming. I’m curious how does a fan find their idol and an idol find her fan. It reminds me of the 2nd and 3rd law of library science “Every reader his [or her] book. Every book its reader.” Except in this case “Every fan his idol. Every idol her fan.” ;) I suspect in Japan the experience is different than it is in the US. I guess in short I’m too new to say.

This is a wonderful question. Hmmm its more like, you don’t choose a favorite member, “the member chooses you so to speak”. The AKB family has more than 200 members and you can have favorites from each group but what determines this process? First of all, it’s true that they have a huge amount of people. But I think thats the best part about it. Normal groups have like what, 3-12 people? (excluding Morning Musume). I think you should think about the novelty in that idea, or at least that’s how I first looked it when I initially saw AKB.

Now onto choosing an oshimen. The only way to “choose” one is to watch a lot of videos, whether is PVs, concert videos, or the plethora of tv shows in which they appear in. Finding an oshimen is kinda like when you see love at first sight. As embarrassing as this is, it’s true. How do you know she’s the one for you? You just sorta know.

For example, I have 5 favorites…..yeah a lot but anyway, for example, I am on the verge of doing an oshihen, to a member named Iriyama Anna because I saw her in real life when she came to Washington DC but what really did it, was when I watched a recording of that concert and she messes up her English introduction and saw that she just has the most adorable laugh.

So yeah, this is kinda what I mean by, “she chooses you”.
