They actually use 25-hour time. True story.

Still at the beginner stage, possibly upper-beginner, I’d say (whereas missingno15 is really just downplaying his distinctly intermediate skills, like a true 日本人, no? ;P).

Started and finished Heisig’s RTK 1, learned lots of new, really useful words – a successful few months, I think :) (Though I think I’d be “upper-advanced” by now if the book wasn’t a work-in-progress, amirite? ;))

    So I got this correction
    日本には「梅干(うめぼし)」を使った日の丸弁当もあれば、「ピカチュウ」などのキャラクターを形作った「キャラ弁」と呼ばれるものなどいろいろあります。
Using a LOT of Rikaikun, I think it means something like: “In Japan, Umeboshi is used in hinobentou… something, something… Pikachu and similar characters are shaped (for decoration, I assume), and that’s called “kyaraben”, which is very colourful.” – Is that close? I don’t really get much of how the sentence was constructed, but I guessed what I could haha

Ah, that’s great thanks :) And yeah, I thought about using the で particle too, but then there are so many grammar points I don’t know that it could be something entirely different. Like you said, enough to write a lang-8 post and have it corrected :).

(It was a show on NHK WORLD called “Cool Japan” – it’s a great channel but the English voice-overs of the Japanese speakers were just godawful haha. The bento lunches they featured looked colourful and downright awesome [lots and lots of decoration], but it just looks too much hassle to do every day :P)

Got an idea for a lang-8 post, so was wondering how you would say “I watched/read/listened to a X about Y” – e.g. “I watched a TV show about Japanese culture; it was about bento boxes.”. Also, how would I say what channel I watched it on?

(that’s going to be the topic of my very small lang-8 post hehe)

@missingno15 I watched the full music video for that a while ago on… dailymotion I think, but I can’t find it anymore :( I didn’t instantly like it like I did with most of their other songs, but it definitely grows on you after a few listens hehe

@Armando: I play guitar too :D Though I’ve been playing for about 5 or 6 years, since I left school a year ago I haven’t really played much at all haha

in reply to: Starting Kanji, little confusion (help) #13885

The . separates what part is the kanji and what part is the furigana (extra kana on the end). In this case ひと.つ is meaning the word 一つ, the ひと part being 一 and the… other part… you know. Koichi is only choosing what he thinks are the most common/useful readings, so not all will be covered. Some kanji have a plethora of old, uncommon or irregular readings (as far as I know, 一 being read as つい in 一日 is the only place it’s read as such [could be wrong though]). Some readings you just have to learn as they are – it’s the reason he gives you lots of vocab to learn as well, so that you can learn the irregular readings as part of words.

    Hope that helps :)

Arashi, I just noticed you like to play “To Zanarkand” – high-five man, I’m learning to play that now :D (Although I have a keyboard, not a piano).

I had a bunch of my dad’s old “Learn to play” books, but they were too difficult and boring, so it turned out 1000x better to just go ahead and learn an actual song. No piece better than “To Zanarkand” :D (Don’t ask me how beginner books are more difficult; they just are somehow XD).

Going away on holiday for a week tomorrow, taking Anki with me on a laptop :3 Can’t bear to let the cards pile up XD Here here for being able to sync Anki through the internet! :D (don’t think I’ll have access to an internet connection, but it just means I’ll be able to bring all my updated cards back easily)

Adieu! (but no, I’m not going to France hehe)

Interesting video in relation to “greetings+animal combos” :) Or at least I *think* it’s interesting… forgotten exactly what’s in it :P

“You guys make my entry look like nothing” – that’s because he’s been doing this whole Japanese malarky for a lot longer than most of us XD He says he’s a beginner, but he’s not really. A “beginner” couldn’t write something like that. Cue missingno15 posting “Beginner” by AK47.
Also, keep up with the Ultimate Vocab, you’re doing great :D

Was playing Team Fortress 2 and this guy joined with the Steam name “Sonbu[軽/暗]” – I assume he was trying to mean “[light/dark]“, but he used the kanji for “light” as in weight rather than brightness XD

    D’awwwww! :3 missingno15 misses Cassandra. How cute ^_^
