Yeah I mean, I don’t stress the “ん” when I say it.. Neither do I ever hear it like that, but yeah.. It seems wrong to put an “m” in there lol.
She’s a white american lady. She’s apparently been speaking Japanese for the past 24 years.. So, longer tha I’ve been alive haha. I suppose she might deserve the benefit of the doubt? Meh. At the university I know they have mostly native japanese speaking professors, so that’s something to look forward to.
Yeah I’m intested to see how the kid who wears a pokemon shirt and the fingerless gloves (non ironically) does, too. Haha
I know not to judge a book by it’s cover, but I was never taught to not take a book less seriously, based on the cover.. Lol.
yeh, just trying to keep up with this so that class is a non-issue. we’re going over 15 kana per class so far (until we finish katakana). nothing special.
the prof is recommending making actual (paper) flash cards, so i guess she’s never heard of anki or anyhting else out there. And since they’re still learning the kana, she’s writing in romaji of course, but things like “こんばんは”, she’s writing as “komban wa” which, i see where she’s getting the “m”, but idk.. it seems like something you wouldn’t want to make more confusing to the student just learning kana, looking for the “m” character.
I’m no professor. Just things I’m glad I already learned about elsewhere.
Pfff naw, a lot of them don;t care enough to actually move ahead.
BUT, I’ve been referring everyone that does, to tofu/textfugu. Most of them aren’t crazy about paying another $120, after just putting down nearly $200 on the two textbooks we’re required.
Their loss.
Triple-post-cccccccombo
I just want to let everyone know that I am SO happy I started learning with textfugu. I’m watching this professor teach this class, and, I don’t know how these other students are supposed to pick up on the prof’s stuffy-ass lessons…
Also, I should add, that the exchange program says I need a year of Japanese classes .. so I at least need one more semester of language..
bleh.
Just imagine me with a dead blank stare, shrugging off into space.
yep. shrugging into space.
Well that’s good to hear! (you should write it off as a fugu business expense >_>)
Well, actually, I’m not sure when I have to apply. I’m going to sit down with my counselor really soon.
this has been my 3rd college since I was 18 (as I’ve been moving all over the past few years), and I’ve been taking some time off in between semesters, and I’m still not sure which credits transferred where, and I STILL have to transfer to the local university soon before I can move on to japan haha. It’s a whole jigsaw puzzle that i was told not to worry about until at least the end of this semester… gotta love school administration.
this is my 4th semester though, so yeah, I’m probably setting up an appointment for sometime this week
aw that blows =/
@Hashi Ah, how come you weren’t? I didn’t know they could just say “nah.. we don;t want you to come to our country..” Was it a sort of program with only a limited amount of accepted applicants?
@missingno15 that is wayyy over my head anyhow haha
Today in class, we learned the first 15 katakana! awesome!…………………
At least now I have plenty of time to worry about other subjects, rather than trying to remember my あ’s and か’s lol.
@Dazanan: it does tickle. But not on my face.
Well, it’s going to cost around $11,000, and that’s in 2011 money. So it’ll probaly go up. I haven’t sat down with my counceller yet, but It looks like I can basically do what I’ve been doing for school money, and apply it to this.
And since my university has this particular exchange program set up as part of my major with Konan University, wouldn’t that mean the credits are transferrable?
I’ll definitely look into possible alt methods though if it comes to that.
Crossing my fingers that it’s somewhat streamlined, ya know.
Hashi, do you have experience with an abroad program?
Or anyone reading this, for that matter. I’m interested in stories if you guys have them!
Yeah definitely! It probably won’t be for another 2-3 semesters, and it’s going to take a lot of work, but it’s an actual realistic goal lol.
My university has a partnership with Konan University in Kobe. It’s with a host family, and extensive Japanese linguistics courses 5 days a week, apparently. Sure, it’s going to cost an arm and a leg.. and maybe another arm.. but that’s what working hard for scholarships/grants/financial aid is for, eh?
err.. since there hasn’t been any activity for the past two days, I guess I’ll just share something cool that I found out.
Turns out, my school doesn’t offer a semester abroad.
It only offers a year!
see what I did there?
thought it was for only one semester.. but a whole year. oh boy
i don’t even know what drill hair is……..
(googling)…….
Ah. does that work in real gravity? haha
@Michael Hmm.. I guess I totally passed that part over. You might get unlucky and have to deal with romaji. I was told that most starting jpn classes use it, from my professor. Who wasn’t sure why i was placed in the next level up class (but there weren’t any prerequisites, so.. beats me)
@ Ryuuguu Azuma Not really.. I mean, it looks like most of the people ware from the first class (jpn85) from the semester before, but aside from some basic phrases, a lot of them said they forgot a lot over the summer.. so I guess they haven’t been using it or studying it for the past 3 months. tsk.
Also, I’m the first to admit that I got the idea to finally do this with my life when I was watching Evangelion 2.22, so I totally understand that being a big reason. I love Jrock/pop as much as anyone else probably does on here, but reasons behind the long term goals run much deeper than my love for anime/vidya/manga/etc. will ever carry me. Imagine moving to america because you were a big Sienfeld fan. Sounds a little off, right? haha
@hashi yeah I got that feeling.. Feels kind of bad on my end because, basically, we all enjoy the same stuff, but ya know… It’s embarrassing to tell people what you’re trying to do with your life, and then have it associated with kids who wear….plated headbands on the regular.
@Paladin I feel ya. Textfgu (along with other internet resources) appear to be far more useful.. but, no reason I can’t stay ahead of the pack with those resources while letting the classes just kind of run on in the background, eh?
@ Mark Weber yeah, not sure who decides these things haha. The next semester in this course tackles.. 70 kanji. It looks like all the kanji they teach in this current semester (going by the back of the textbook) is stuff I’m already a good deal familiar with, thanks to Textfugu
