December 26, 2011 at 12:37 am in reply to: Ever have a "that's not what they said" movie moment? #22988“わからない” which they translated to “that’s obvious” when it should be “you don’t know?”. The pitch and everything about the line says it is a question, not a statement.
Just my 2 cents here, but the translation sounds correct to me… わからない? in this sense is rhetorical, so it’s the same as saying “that’s obvious.”
I’ve also seen the opposite scenario, where idioms were translated way too literally into english and flat out ruined the flow of the story.
You’re not going to have access to a smartphone while you’re in basic and definitely won’t have time to do anything other than push-ups and trying to stay awake. Best bet is to put it to the side and wait till you get through basic and AIT. You’ll have tons of downtime after you finish your training, but absolutely none during.
Am I doin it right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wusGIl3v044I ran across this post on ajatt, and thought of this thread here. Reading this in hindsight was helpful to me (even though it’s common sense), and thought it might help with perspective here for the OP

nice to know that in my absence, missing grew out of his obsession with skinny prepubescent japanese girls with horrible outfits….
uninstall skyrim and lock it way… you’ll find a lot more time on your hands ;)
years invested… and you give up? Sounds like you’re just fed up to me. You’ll be back (and that’s a good thing). Just set it down for a while. I suspect there’s probably some other things going on in your life that are making you feel this way… sort your head on those and find your alpha again, you’ll get right back to where you need to be.
I took a ‘break’ myself when everything else ‘other’ than my japanese studies decided to get in the way and am just now easing back into things. If you need more inspiration, refer back to crumb’s post and sack the eff up.

Ever wonder what English sounds like to non-English speakers? I think this guy hits the nail on the head:

Also, you can tell he really likes to party! Also, I don’t believe I’ve seen a western cartoon that mentioned someone reaching their limit, or asking who the hell someone thought they were.

And incase you miss the alt text on the comic:
If you’re a geologist or geophysicist and you don’t introduce yourself by saying your name, then gesturing downward and saying “…and I study that”, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life.Missing likes to party
