Hi Gordon, welcome to the forums!

That sucks that you have to learn Kanji the crappy way… maybe go through RTK and Textfugu kanji lessons on the side to give yourself an edge :P

By the way… SO jealous that you’ve been to Japan twice! It’s a distant dream of mine…. one day!! Bet it was amazing!

Aw man… I love OK Go. Their videos are amazing too.

@Mister – Speak for yourself, I didn’t know this thread existed haha! *skips merrily off through the thread listening to ALL the songs* :P

Oooh congrats on getting those exams out of the way guys :D So glad I saw the back of those things many years ago!

I have a couple of weeks off work for the Christmas holidays, so I’m heading back to my hometown for a while to catch up with my family and friends. It’s my birthday Friday too, so gonna be having a night out with friends for that…. can’t wait :D

Apart from the copious food and drink, I’ll be attempting to start RTK book one and keep up with my Anki reviews. Determined not to get too distracted!

…what on earth happened to this thread by the way? I feel this is all my fault for mentioning the 90′s.

True, the Kinect’s library of games is tiny at the moment, but I think it’s got a lot of potential in the future. I have high hopes! I’m already stupidly excited about Fable: The Journey, but that’s me being a Fable geek.
Binary Domain, Ghost Recon, Star Wars… they all look pretty good. Child of Eden is already visually amazing. Pity I die on level one every time.
Mass Effect 3 is going to be using the Kinect in a few cool ways… who knows, could be interesting?
Kinect is still really new… I’m sure they have a lot more up their sleeves than various reincarnations of Kinectimals (I had a demo of that. Novelty wore off immediately after saying ‘awwwww look how fluffy that tiger is!!’)

By the way, I did used to have a Wii… well, my ex did. I loved Zelda on it, apart from my arms getting knackered. Damn these consoles making me stand up and be ‘active’ lol.

@Tori – I have a Kinect and it’s AWESOME. Only if you have the right amount of room though, else you’ll have to get a weird zoomy converter thing, and I don’t know how good that is. Depends what sort of gaming experience you’re after really. The Wii has always been more ‘family fun and games’, whilst I can see the Kinect bringing out a few more ‘hardcore’ games at some point.

@Mister – I heard book 2 sucks as well… any idea why though?? I might get it eventually regardless. Along with some sort of grammar book… maybe the one Missing has sung the praises of before.

@Mister – Yeah only a quick peek at the first few though, plus some radicals. I’m getting RTK Book 1 for Christmas though, so I’m trying to wait until then before I really make a start. Can’t wait to start it properly!

    My eyeeees!

I caught up with my Anki reviews last night… Hiragana, sentences and 1/2 stroke radicals. Still having awful trouble remembering dakuten so have decided to focus on those intensely this weekend.
Made a start on the first few kanji, mainly out of curiosity. Really have to stop myself from trying to remember too much at once :(

(after saying that… turns out it took me 2 mins to learn dakuten once I stopped trying to do it by sight alone. I should know by now that my brain doesn’t work like that! ばか! >< )

Is everyone here strictly retro consoles (nowt wrong with that by the way… my friend has a collection of every console I can think of, awesome fun!) or do any of you guys have an Xbox360?

My little brother was obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog back then… I had to sit through hours of it recorded from the TV.
He even went as far as to have a stained glass bedroom window, which was Sonic in a golden ring.

Wow, that sounds ridiculous. I promise I didn’t live in a castle or anything… my Dad just makes windows haha!

@ Larisa – Haha I’m getting two cats after Christmas… my transformation into a cat lady is almost complete!

@Mister – Ah I see… I think over here we start school at 4 now too, but I started back in the day when you joined primary school the first term after your fifth birthday. Weird system really, as I then ended up doing an extra couple of terms than others in my school year did.
Also… Crystal Maze YES! I still watch that on Challenge… though it’s way better with Richard O’Brian than Ed Tudor-Pole. Love the contestants awful 90′s haircuts.

I think my favourite kids gameshow of all time was Finders Keepers… I really wanted to go on that show.

@winterpromise31 come join me in my oldies corner over here… I have cats, knitting and cocoa. We can moan about the ‘youth of today’ and make scarves or something.

(I’m just bitter as I turn 29 in a week or so…. my friend helpfully pointed out that more than a third of my life had gone already. Thanks ‘friend’)

@Mister Yeah, it’s a bit strange. I mean, I remember the 80′s, but it’s all a bit vague. Before I started school in 88 there’s not a lot to anchor memories to.

I guess the 90′s are just more memorable because they were AWESOME.
