@irmoony “Well, I kind of expected that, Japanese vocab is so different from any European language after all.” Not true at all, all languages are seen in difficulty from the speakers native language. Meaning the difficulty is determined by your native language, the language you’re studying, and your ability to understand.
As for “vocab” which includes verbs and their conjugation, considering you mentioned “European Language”. Here is an example.

I just feel confident using this as an example. Both of these “European”(Spanish) verbs mean the same thing “to be”, and they have 100+ conjugations each, and the context you use them is completely different. Crazy right?Anyway, I’m having a tough time getting my self to study in the first place, I have 6+ hours of Geology a week (plus 3 other classes), 20 hours of work a week, homework, I will be starting a second job (because I can barely afford simple things like gas to go to school) in 2 weeks. And when I do have time all I end up doing is playing games or wasting away on youtube. I try to stay up with my anki decks daily, but even that isn’t enough to keep it fresh in my mind, I’m digging my own Japanese grave and it’s driving me crazy. Sadly, College and grading processes aren’t based off intelligence and knowledge retention but rather a scale of “effort” which in my opinion is complete BS. Grading should be based on tests and tests alone, not the fact that people have more time than others. So FML, I hate my life.
Woosh. Thank god. It wouldn’t just be weird but creepy. I did watch Japanese guy on justin.tv once who was just sitting at his computer talking and you could also hear said app talking, so it seemed to be talking back, which was when I first saw it, and assumed it was responding. Glad to know it doesn’t.

Starcraft eh? Well, I’ve never been much of an rts fan but I have found a few commentator’s in Japanese with Minecraft series videos.

Hmm, actually never heard of it but if it doesn’t have romaji then that is a good thing, my college schedule is loaded though. I wonder if it bases itself off the fact that college students are busy, or that it is college level language studies. Not even Amazon has any reviews of it, not to mention it’s a text from the mid-90′s so could also be a little “old-school” in learning methods.
If you are able to check-out the copy from your university, let us know how the test drive goes.
I tried to do a search for Japanese text at my college but came up with nothing, and unfortunately the public libraries are 30-40 minutes away (driving), if it is good I would have no choice but to buy it, unless I check the incredibly cheap used bookstore (my friend got a “colloquial japanese” book from it for 75¢)
It all comes down to how often you hear/read/write/speak it. Quite awhile back my Spanish was pretty flawless while I was studying and using it, I’ve resorted back to having to think and translate in my head because the only time I use it now is when I’m being cursed at for no reason, the hispanic women at work are pretty relentless, I get told “vete a la chingada contigo” at least once everytime I’m at work, so most of my quick knowledge is defensive retorts. But that’s just an example with a language I’ve already studied and understand. (Btw, I will not translate that statement, if you already know, then you also know why I need quick retorts.)
As for Japanese it will take quite awhile in my perspective, as I’m pretty good with language regardless (got a message on youtube in German and was able to translate it without a dictionary or any prior learning of German). But even Japanese and it’s kanji, onyomi, kunyomi, all give me a new brain tumor, (Though I learn my grammar/vocab in just a matter of days)

Honestly most of my family doesn’t really pay attention to it, but my grandpa was huge into researching it, he would always tell me the new things he would find out. He’s no longer alive but his enthusiasm for family history seems to live on through me. As for how my Irish side arrived, I have no idea, but it’s funny when my dad comes home and finds cousins he didn’t know about and they end up with a “Mc-” last name.
As for Greek… well, “It’s all Greek to me.” But when you feel comfortable with Japanese I say you go for it
It’s still strange to think that I could easily get in touch with distant Japanese family, would most likely be really awkward though, seeing as I’m a Caucasian posterboy in a way, dark blonde hair and blue eyes, seems everything except my height screams “WHITEY!”

I definitely suggest Ban Ban Radio, Sea Wave, and Osumi FM. Sometimes the main website for TuneIn is picky and it might not work, but you can get all the streaming files from here, http://www.simulradio.jp/ It’s all in Japanese but you can easily go by the logo thumbnails.

Haha, it’s the United States. Diversity is our middle name, though most of the time it’s not always a good thing. It’s not easy to track family history here either, but it seems a lot of people take pride in it, which my grandfather did.
I definitely went more than overboard with this, seems like when I hit that one year older mark I go a little crazy, accompanied by lack of sleep due to work and classes.
But yeah, my family is an interesting one.
Oh yeah, and thanks for the “happy birthday”. My facebook exploded yesterday, as well as my phone from facebook constantly emailing me.

I could understand what was going on, and I could understand what the arguments were about through context of the movie, as for picking out anything specific no, I may go back and watch it again at some point just to see what I can pick out.
I watch a lot of stuff with subs and without subs, but even with subs I can pick out when they say things I understand it making the learning process that much more rewarding.
As for the movie I watched it was バッテリー (Batteri – Battery) Which is a baseball term in which the pitcher and catcher are a huge strength of the team (it originated from the military word Battery which meant heavy artillery). Just with that description, I’m sure you could probably guess it was a baseball movie. I did watch it with subtitles (thought they were in Chinese so it was actually pretty useless). I definitely recommend it, it’s more about brotherhood, friendship, and family, more than it is about baseball.
Haha, well… I can tell those are all .jp and I probably shouldn’t attempt to order overseas with my lack of Japanese knowledge. But wow… 132 bucks for vol.2 I got mine already imported to the US Amazon for only $10, that price is nuts. (Based on first link)
I like the collection you have though, when I get some stronger language in my system, I’ll try to beat it. =D
Where in the world do you get so much? I got lucky on amazon and found a Japanese copy of “Spice and Wolf” but that’s it.
Now if I could just get all the others, I’ll be able to read them and understand them before YenPress ever actually finishes releasing the English copies.
Yeah, it could easily be “pronounced” with an m, because the way “nb” kind of rolls into. But teaching it like that is a bad idea, I wouldn’t be surprised if people starting thinking that there is a single character for “m”. Haha is your teacher Japanese? (I had a Spanish teacher back in High school that was a typical white american, she was terrible compared to my next teacher who was from Puerto Rico.)
I’m still curious to see how this class will turn out for your classmates.
