Thank you, I’ll add Tampopo to my list, it seems interesting and I’d love to see a young Ken Watanabe acting, even if it’s not that old of a movie compared to the other.
For people who prefers recent movie, I’d strongly recommand : Letters from Iwo Jima.
I’m planning to watch ”Confessions” (2010) soon, have any of you have seen it?
Note to larisajane : don’t base the time of the season 1 chapter for other season. Some chapter need time to really understand and practice and by adding the vocabs list + the Kanji it is a lot to do 1/day, just saying ^^
my goals now are :
1) Finishing textfugu vocab list by the end of october
2) Building up a big list of my own that I find in the wild mostly during november and december.
3) Coming back to Textfugu and reviewing some chapters/finishing up to were it is, January
4) Starting to read / write actively, website, manga, penpal, lang-8 and watching anime and shows without subtitles1-4) all while reviewing with Anki and listening to podcast/radio/music on regular basis.
I don’t think it would work. One of the strength of textfugu is building a linear textbook, meaning that each lesson uses things of the past one and integrates things such as kanji and vocabs. Putting a gap for advanced section would only make it confusing for both the reader and the writer I believe.
I’m in the same boat here. I’m up to date with the lesson. I come to see the forum from time to time. I’m not learning really fast and the learning of the ultimate list on anki is taking me quite some time so that’s good. But when I’ll have finish those, I believe I’ll learn faster than the lesson are out even if I don’t actively study grammar.
That being said, I don’t really mind since textfugu taught me a lot about learning by itself. I discovered techniques, programs and other things that are as important as content for me.
A good way to ”slow down learners” would be to hire a full time kanji employee, same style as now but being full time = a lot of them. And just making a lot of them to learn earlier than it is now. Sure it doesn’t change anything for us who for the most part learn Kanji some others ways, but for helping new people not to run out, it would be a good way…I think.
Does that mean there is gonna be something like 10+ Seasons now?
Other than that I’m also for improvements. But maybe it’s my screen defenition or something but some things like de dashboard and the seasons tab, have a scroll down thing, inside the normal scroll down thing. And I have to play with both of them to correctly see and use the site. It’s a pain, other have this problem?
1. Are mini-lessons useful to you or no (please be honest!)?
Well yes…but it’s only a sentence, I can find and read a lot of them2. Do you read the mini-lesson posts (please be honest!)?
I do.3. Are they too hard? Too easy to be useful?
They are perfect for my level, I know parts of them but not everything, everytime.4. Should I do these less frequently?
Maybe you should make a bigger sentence (multiple sentence) and make it a Weekly thing Monday to Monday5. Is certain content better for mini lessons in your opinion? What’s the best kind of mini-lesson content? What’s the worst?
I’ll go with the last poster, since context is important, lot of the sentence are thougher because of that. Maybe what I said for 4. would help that?6. Are you just waiting for others to respond to see the answers? Are you answering on your own but not posting up?
I’m answering(trying) without posting and without reading others.7. Anything else that might be helpful? :D
Don’t know, an anki sentence practice deck after each season? Like multiple sentence that incorporate the kanji and grammar rules that we saw in the season. You make( or anybody really) like 50-100 sentences to review…you could even just take the sentence you use for the practice sheet or chapter example. The good thing in this deck is that you could mix the sentence grammar point. When you pratice and it’s all the same point one after the other, it’s kind of obvious and easy to see the pattern without thinking.
In fact I’ll probably do this when I’m done with the ultimate lists and focussing or grammar and sentences, but it won’t be before like 2 monthsJust open the Season 3 tab, on the right, under ”chapter extras” you’ll find those.
To be precise,
1. What You’ll Go Do ……………..For the verb deck
3. Being Casual Part 1 (Nouns)……..For the noun deck
4. Being Casual Part 2 (Adjectives)…For the adj. deckand finally for the second noun deck, you’ll need to go directly to the page, since the link in the ”chapter extras” is broken, Chapter 10, Page 9.
http://www.textfugu.com/season-3/sugi/10-9/You should link Kanji’s pronunciation to vocabs.
Maybe create your own deck with vocabs using those on and kun you are studying. I think your retention would be way better like that than if you try to memorize the kun and on of each particular kanji.
You could use those words Koichi classify as ” we will learn them later ”
Even if they use Kanji you don’t know yet.And as a plus, you learn vocabs!
On a side note, if you did RTK, I would use Koichi’s section, since the story aren’t the same and it can be counter-productive. I’d just jump inside Koichi’s ultimate list with Kanji input. And after that, add vocabs I found here and there.

People are learning, that’s good!
For me, I stopped doing RTK…well, I did like 500 of them and after reading here and there, asking opinions, I found that it would be better for myself to learn directly with vocabs.
More of a motivation thing I guess, Didn’t have the courage to do the other 1500++ and after learning vocabs and prununciation ( I know its quite faster when you know the meaning ) but everyone is own way :)
So at the moment I’m studying Textfugu’s Ultimate lists WITH Kanji mode only, learning vocabs, verbs, adjs and Kanjis. I’m more motivated that way.
Keep up the work everyone and have fun!
In any case it is useful since when you are seeing a compound of Kanji (moslty On) or with a verb or adj (mostly Kun), you know right away what is the prununciation.
Well that is if I understood what I read.

1. Very!
2. clear sky (needed rikaichan :(
3. The clear skies are in the morning of Marsh?(doesnt seem right at all lol)
4. don’t know :(
@Ryuuguu I felt the same one after only one post so I didn’t post again…it’s been like 2-3 months since then.
I think Lang-8 should be use later in the lessons because of the corrections are really tough to understand (especially when you are only season 3-level japanese and just writing is though enough)
So for me, I’m waiting to be a little better and I’ll give it another shot since it’s truly a great learning ressource
It’s been about 6 months since I started, I’m a few lesson behind textfugu(3.8). I started pretty strongly but since the start of the summer I was….hmm…let’s say lazy.
But I’m kicking back things up now! To answer your question, I still don’t see the light. I’m advancing and I’m having fun…so if I have that, I’m happy with my progress.
I’m not press by any timeline or anything so it’s making it easier to just be ” cool ” about it.

What do you want me to work on? #15006I think it’s also good that you remind us that now the lesson are way more ”complete package” than before and thus making the time lapse between them longer.
Here in the FAQ :
Q. How often is TextFugu updated?
We shoot for around 1-2 new lessons and 10 kanji written per week.
People need to realise that’s what you got for the ancient kind of lesson (like the first one about colors…lol)
Anyway like I said, 4 strong months and 1 weak month ( in my point of view, from the creator its might be a lot different )
So when you say that it seemed ”less” because of preping and thinking for order and stuff, I have no problem at all, I’m no angry. When my Avatar turns green and big, then, I’ll be MADDDD
@Mister I think you are so fast in the learning curve that even 2 Koichi couldn’t feed you enough content :p
