I agree with Kanjiman, it depends on why you’re studying. The JLPT, a job transfer, a promotion, or getting a plan of action going for something five years down the road. They all have their own paces. I would wager most study Japanese for fun or personal reasons.
Current anime, Sword Art Online, 境界線上のホライゾン, Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero
TV Shows: Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (I know it’s not current, but I love the series)
I have, it has great podcasts, engaging conversations that seem like you would hear out and about. There is a lot of English in them though, so, if you are going totally immersion, it may not be for you. The kana learning area is cool, the flashcards are srs style. Has a dictionary area, active forums, lots of videos, printable pdfs for the lesson notes, but I preferred to write my own. You can select your own vocabulary for the flashcards. The kanji area though is sorely lacking in my mind, but, that’s me. I enjoyed it, but, it’s kinda expensive, the free section doesn’t offer much in the way of resources, though they did just open a resource area in the free stuff; I haven’t gone to check it out yet, I’m enjoying textfugu more than I did JPod101. I may not have given it a fair shot, honestly, I didn’t do it consistently. It was real easy to go too fast since you were listening to the podcasts it seemed. Just my two cents.
Hehe, it must be because I listened to it a lot while I was pregnant with him. He loves to fall asleep when its on. His favourite is Sabaton, lol.
Hihi! Welcome!
I like the lite version, it’s nice when you’re waiting somehwere and what not. I used the control panel to set up keyboards. Control Panel -> Clock, Language, Region -> Change keyboards or other input methods -> Click “Change Keyboards” -> Hit “Add” -> Scroll down to Japanese (or hit J for faster search) -> Double click to open the +, and under Keyboard, again double click, you should see Japanese and Microsoft IME. Select those two and confirm. Apply -> Ok, and you are good to go with the Language bar on your task bar. Single click brings up the menu of English or Japanese. I only use the basic input. You’ll see a button Japanese with a keyboard icon, click it and select IME, this will bring up lots of buttons. Select the one that says Hiragana for Hiragana, but be warned I have found to not use kanji(if you dont know it yet) don’t hit the space bar between words, otherwise it will input kanji, and that’s not always correct. Just click with the mouse, that will select the text you’ve written and not exchange it for Kanji. It has Katakana on there as well. To write in regular type, just go back to the button that says IME and select the Japanese with the keyboard icon.
Sorry it’s wordy, it really only takes but a minute to change things.
Hope this helps someone.
Actually to tell the truth, the written language has always scared me till recently. I started making a concerted effort on learning it, I’ve started with Hiragana, and a few kanji, I just cant quite seem to wrap my head around how they’re read and everything.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
