Hate to double post but I can’t find the edit button.
I thought I’d share what has really worked wonders for me. Specially how simple it is. I look at how its read in japanese. Hiragana or Kanji if you know that much. Then just look at the English meaning while I repeat the Japanese pronunciation a couple of times while still looking at the English words.
For instance, for the verb “To Play” look at it in English. Just stare at the words “To Play” then keep repeating 遊びます/あそびます out loud with correct pronunciation. This should help you relate the Japanese to the English. That way you know that 遊びます/あそびます means “To Play” in Japanese.
It’s pretty simple, but it helped me really learn them quickly. At least much faster than what I originally did. It also makes reviewing it easier.
Oddly enough that really did help. Seeing the kanji really helped. Also just writing it constantly with its meaning helped a bit too. Thanks.
Thanks they did help out. I’ll just try and learn the others as they are. Verbs list 2 seems pretty daunting, but I’ll give myself some time before looking for help.
Alright, here are the ones I have the most trouble with.
わかります- To Understand
おくります – To Send
かえります – To Return(Home)
あいます – To Meet
ならいます – To Learn
ききます – To Listen
まちます – To WaitYeah to eat and drink were the simplest. They just added on the part of the noun we had already reviewed before. I’m sure most of these verbs also take parts from their noun-counterpart, but I guess I’ll just continue drilling it.
Anki on my phone is helping a bit, but the second set of verbs are probably worse than the first.
That’s kind of what I was getting at. Though I have no trouble remembering everything up to this point. I go through Anki daily, sometimes 2-3 times just to be able to read, speak and understand the sentences/vocab/kanji better.
I feel as long as I keep up with Anki and devote some time to reviewing what I’ve learned it will stick. By far the easiest part for me has been the pronunciation. Having Spanish as my second native language and a few years of Italian under my belt it honestly gives me a great range.
I honestly don’t see myself losing motivation since I’m already planning a summer abroad program to Japan with my university, but wanted to see if pacing myself might be a smarter choice.
