Just an example of what I mean about vocab v. reading

The kanji for child has the reading shi but the vocab is ko. I don’t understand why I’m learning the reading shi if japanese equivalent of child is ko. But then the reading shi is used in the vocab word girl–> joshi. So why is the reading only shi and not both ko and shi. Or are they both correct but only one reading is quizzed in the anki decks? Sorry if this is confusing or I’m just completely missing something obvious. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the whole kanji concept.

Thanks that kind of works but for some reason it only works for some decks and not others. Gonna try deleting all the decks and the program and just reinstalling and redownloading/importing… This is so frustrating, if I could just get anki to work properly I’d be flying through the lessons. :/ I might just have to invest in a real text book/ online program cuz I spend more time trying to figure out anki than actually studying. I kind of wish I hadn’t paid for this :(

This doesn’t quite help, I have windows 8.

The Japanese is more for exploring beyond the ski lift.
