38+ and 25+ are still pretty impressive
Should be quite easy to discern where I’m currently located from the title ;)
I’ve been learning Japanese on and off for the past four years, but not very seriously. Attempting to change that this year! We’ll see how far I get. I’m aiming to work in the gaming industry, so that’s partly a motivation, but I’m also quite an anime/manga/books/games nerd, so… yes. And I just find Japan very interesting in and of itself!
My language background is wider than probably most – I’ve been bilingual almost from birth, and English came along when I was 4 years old. Currently fluent in Afrikaans, Dutch, and English. You’ve probably noticed that they’re all Germanic and all relatively closely related, so I don’t have much of an advantage there, haha. I used to know quite a bit of Indonesian but forgot it all years ago, and I still have a small amount of Latin left from high school days.
As for myself… not too old, not too young, doing a bachelor of science in game technology, and probably more than anything else, an artist.
Nice to meet you all!
Welcome! Nice to meet you :) I’m new here too, site and language! Good luck in your studies.
You’re from… Atlantis?

Your cat was 20.5 years old?! That is probably the oldest I have heard for a cat.Not quite twenty. I actually looked into records for the oldest cat – think it was something like forty-three. My cat wasn’t even close to being the oldest in Australia, much less the world. =)
I suppose personally “almost” 20 has been the oldest I have heard of, granted I have not looked into actual world records :D 43 is insane though! That is almost like being married lol
Thanks for the pep talk Samuel :) I appreciate any kind of advice since I am just starting out. I think that is a great idea to find a secondary interest that is tied to Japanese other than strict studies. I think I might go the route of mangas and TVJapan for now. I started recording some Japanese kids shows on my DVR from TVJapan lol. Figured it would possibly be easy to follow once I get the basics down. Maybe I can find some Japanese music too since I do love me some music! Any recommendations on the Japanese music? Thought I’d ask since you must know some bands. Anyways, thanks again for the positive input, I appreciate it!
Awwwww, I’m sorry to hear that : ( I have been through a few animals passing in my time and it is rough stuff. I am trying to prepare myself for the eventual passing of my two kitties since they are getting up there. I don’t think one can really prepare for something like that though. The only solace one can take is knowing they had a good, long, happy life ya know? Wow! Your cat was 20.5 years old?! That is probably the oldest I have heard for a cat. I’m sure she had a wonderful life <3 I am sure you do miss her, pets imo are family. My last pet I lost was in 2008, he was my childhood dog and he was 15. Always sad to say goodbye.
Hi ya! Thanks for the welcomes : )
Joel – yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if someone from Yokota was on here. I know for sure if this site had been around when I was stationed there (and if I wasn’t so young and busy partying >.<) that I would have taken advantage of studying the language while there. To be young and unfocused was years 18-23 :D Btw, I like your profile pic ……. cats UNITE!!!!! :D The kitty in my profile pic is one of two kitties I saved off base when I was in Japan 15 years ago. My guys are going on 16 now …. such old men!
Samuel – Thanks for the welcome! I seen you just started on this site as well (?) Congrats on a whole year worth of study thus far! I just started 2 days ago and I already feel overwhelmed. I keep thinking about all the stuff I have to learn versus taking it one day at a time. I’m psyching myself out I think. I need to stick some post it notes up on my desk that say, “ONE DAY AT A TIME” : )
