こんなときなのにパパは新しい革靴がぬれるのを気にしていた。
1. こんなとき – “that time”
2. 新しい革靴がぬれる – “new leather shoes get wet”
3. 気にしていた。- “was worried”
Now we have to paste it together with some grammar.
4. なのに – “even though”
5. のを – nominalize a verb phrase
6. Even then, he was worried about his new leather shoes getting wet.
Because the sentence starts with a reference to a previously stated time, one can only assume this is related to the sentences posted in previous quizzes. (thus referring to the sunny day) and therefore のに is used to say ‘even though it was sunny, …’I wouldn’t worry. If you will indeed study abroad, then it should sink in to a deeper level than now. I have the same experience as missings sister. Just last weekend actually I went to a beer garden and got drunk with some random Japanese guys I had never met and I felt less inhibited. Of course it might not help your accuracy but it definately helps your fluency. That night I was talking to my friend (Japanese) and I was wasted, but the next day she told me my Japanese was really good. I just wish I could remember! I forgot maybe 40% of that night…

1. その日にすごく明るくて、太陽がいっぱいだった。雲が少なかった。2. 「よく」は英語で「well」というです。でも、この文書で「very」のほうがいいと思います。
3. 「晴れた日」は「sunny day」です。
4. So the most natural translation I would say is:
‘It was a sunny day.’
or
‘It was a beautiful day.’only because we don’t really say it was a clear skies day (we sometimes might say, it was a clear day, but I think it was a beautiful day or the weather was beautiful might be a more natural English translation.)
Me too.
I think he means for example 水 has the readings すい、みず.
And I think he wants to know if it is important to know which is On and which is Kun reading, or if he can disregard which is which and just remember the readings.
I was planning to log on this morning before work, but after last night, couldn’t wake up very easily.
今朝に早く起きるつもりだったけど、昨日おかげで、今朝、ちょっと起きにくかった。
Let us indeed join forces!
No sir, quite the contrary. You put my reading skills to shame… :o(
Yay! today was my first time on the teamspeak.
It was nice to meet a few of you. Hope to see some more on there too!
本当にそれはいい質問だね。
That is a good question. I haven’t really decided my future regarding my Japanese. Recently my brother has been studying art and graphic design etc so I’ve been thinking it might be cool to author a manga together. But that has just been a recent thought.
Who knows…Found an interesting goat pen (with turtles for some reason). Lots of small goats, but found this big guy. Its like the one rooster in the hen’s coop. He was a BEAST!

Welcome to Textfugu. It’s cool that you’ve already had a chance to visit and see what you’re aiming for.

August 11, 2011 at 5:30 am in reply to: Couldn't find the "studying Japanese in your dreams" thread #15426I remember only a bit of the first time it happened to me. I was shopping at ユニクロ (Uniclo) and I was talking to the staff about clothes or something. I can’t remember any more.
More recently, I remember one (because it was so strange). I was back in Canada and talking to my brother in Japanese. And for some reason my parents understood me! It was really freaky. They have been to Japan twice to visit me, but have no knowledge beyond simple greetings.
Anyway, that freaked me out and I didn’t realize it was strange until I woke up.
