    特製ドリンクの効き目もどこへやら

I get the meaning overall, but am not sure about the specifics of やら on the end.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You can’t “flip cards in Anki 2 the same way you could in the first version but there is a way to make the cards you want that is not too difficult.

Open the browser by clicking “Browse” at the top of the screen.
Select the note type you are working with (the one you want to add the reverse cards to) on the left.
Once you’ve selected, you’ll see a list off all the notes of that type on the left.
Beneath the list of cards will be the fields where you can edit the information in the notes and two buttons;  ”Fields” and “Cards”.
    Click “Cards”.
A new window will appear with boxes on the right to edit the template of the card on the left and a preview of the card on the right.
In the top right corner will be a “+” button.
    Click it.
A new card will appear and you can edit the template as you like, placing whichever fields you want on either side of the card.

It’s more complicated than in the old version but it also allows you to create multiple types of cards from a single note.

@vanandrew – I’ve had better luck syncing  with the new version. Also I was really glad I didn’t have to pay for it again.

So, moving back has really and truly kinked the pipeline of my Japanese studies. Working as a substitute teacher leaves me with little to no schedule to speak of and I’ve been having trouble getting into a routine. However, last night I went to dinner with my roommate who is Chinese and a bunch of his friends and received a motivational boost. (Yahoo). I guess sitting at dinner with a bunch of Asians and not understanding anything hit me with a bit of nostalgia from my first year in Japan.
On a side note, I really miss Japan. I see photos posted by friends who still live there and it just about breaks my heart every time. I’m probably remembering things being better than they actually were overall, but I am honestly going to try to start looking for more permanent (non-ALT) work and  get back to the books. And, of course, try to convince the old ball-and-chain to go too.

This may be interesting to some of you. After a long break of not studying at all, I’ve found that where I struggle most is with remembering kanji; seeing written words that I know, but don’t recognize since I have forgotten the kanji. Grammar points and sentence patterns mostly still seem to be there, vocabulary too, at least when spoken (or written in hiragana or katakana).

I suppose, at least in my case, If I know I am going to be coming to a point where my other obligations will drastically limit my studying, the best thing to keep up with, if I had to choose just one, would be kanji recognition.

I’m back! Better late than never (unless you hate me or are indifferent in which case, ‘Worse late than never,’ and “Late and never are pretty much the same,’ respectively).

I pulled up anki today and it didn’t even tell me how many cards I have. It seems 1000+ is as foreboding as the program has been written to be.

    Oh, great job Mark!
    And Missing,  Great jo…
    That’s about 7/9 of a congratulations.

I had one in Japan. I loved it but it didn’t fit in my suitcase. I don’t know what model it was…

I think we should have race icons. That way we will no how to interpret things based on the commenter’s ethnic background. Also, I’m curios to see what they would look like.  Maybe as you progress through the chapters your little ethnic avatar (ethnitar?) could slowly turn yellow and get slanty-eyed! Now that’s progress.

Less the week and I am out of this cursed land! I leave, what will be for only a short while longer, my house on Friday at 6:30pm and arrive in Raleigh, NC on Saturday at 10:30pm. 40 hours of travel. I will not be a pleasant man.

Since this is a study thread, I should say that all study has been shelved for me probably till early September. There’s just too much else going on.

Dropbox has gone through some changes recently. That may have some relation to the syncing problems people are having.

@Poppy – are you trying to import the downloaded decks into an already existing deck or to create a new deck?

@kanjiman (from a long time ago) – I’ll probably come back here as well as visit the major cities, it terms of travel fare, it’s hardly that much more.

@crumb – I went through the N3 総まとめ grammar book but found it to be pretty easy…the N2 might be more up your alley. I haven’t really used any other JLPT specific books.

My basic rule of thumb is: the more kanji in a word, the more serious the word is.
