I am crass in most of my advice, yes. I intend to be. It’s a modification on the Missingno15 method. Missing trolls with AKB and throws in a little real information. I replace AKB with being crass.
You may ask why I choose to be crass…if not…too bad because you’re about to find out.
I’ve been around the block a few times when it comes to Japanese resources and there are two commonalities that I see everywhere I look: hand-holding and the encouragement of bad habits. You know what else I see? PEOPLE FAILING. Those who forge their own path, can openly learn from others and have a tough skin tend to be the ones who stay around a LOT longer. In fact, many of the replies on this page prove that. Many of those who have been here for a long time are the ones who joke around. They’re the ones who can take a little criticism and aren’t afraid to troll a little here and there.
I’m going to go out on a limb here: If you’re uptight then you’re learning the wrong language. Japanese culture is a giant troll when you really start to get into it.
Crumb had the same problem. You have to be patient. It will take you to the post if you give it more than ten seconds to load. Patience, grasshopper….and no. You cannot have my Annin photos.

Frankly, Joel, I don’t give a rats ass. I just enjoy coming here and raging at people who angrily ask for help. You try to spend a day in Teamspeak with us when we get a new person. You’ll have a whole new impression of this “community” and it’s not one you’ll enjoy.
90% of the time when you ask Japanese questions on this site or any other site you’ll get 20 conflicting answers…so I can assure you I’ve done no damage.
But by all means. Go ahead and continue helping these people here who are just going to drop off the face of the planet in a couple days without even thanking you. You prefer the gentle explanation method of learning. I prefer the “You’re thinking too deeply into this. Stop trying to make this something that it’s not.” method. Some people just like to take the long way, I suppose…

Nah. I’m too much of a drifter for marriage. Looks like I’ll be hitting the rails once more….
チンチン電車止まりますHey guys. Lets borderline rage at the people helping us! Yeah! Sounds like a great idea.
Dont ask for help then get mad because the people helping you are giving you an answer you don’t want to hear. Seriously. Ingrate much?
To clarify, I’m not against asking WHY. I am, however against the wasting of time and those that want to compare Japanese to english. It’s just not really possible a good portion of the time. The languages share next to no roots. They developed in complete isolation from one another. Dont. Compare. Them.

Protip: If torrents slow down your computer then you’re doing it wrong.
If you don’t want torrents then you’re really out of luck unless you want to spend hundreds on a streaming service. (Like I have. lol)
You could also just be patient and use NIJI when it comes back up at the end of the maintenance period.
Elenkis. You’re great. It’s good to know that there’s people here who can see through all the fluff and BS on TF and don’t worship the ground Koichi walks on.
You’re my hero of the day.

Time.

Stop thinking in “levels” of formality. Just because you’re adding -san doesnt mean you’re being “formal.” It’s just how things are in Japanese. If you’re close with someone you can call them by their name alone…but it’s not like you cannot add -san on any longer.
As for using it with family…no you wouldn’t need to do that in every day life…but to be honest…you wouldn’t be calling your sister by name in every day life because you’d be calling her by her title “sister”…or not using a subject in the sentence at all.
You’re thinking too deeply into this.
PS: Anime Japanese is not a good example of correct speaking.

Instead of trying to wrap your head around the parts of speech why not just learn? You dont need to learn what is what at all. Just learn where things go and why. Are you trying to learn Japanese or are you trying to learn how to write a textbook?
If you have an iOS device, you should check out the app Japanese.
They have a feature that is specifically for wandering through vocab then mining what you dont know. The home screen for the app has vocab that just floats by and you can tap ones that you dont know and add them to the app’s flash card system.
It includes a full dictionary, fully functional flash card system (more feature rich than anki) and both speech and handwriting recongition.

I really dont think anyone here has done this. I kinda doubt that Koichi did it… I don’t really see him doing enough in a day that he needs to squeeze more time in. XD Unless it’s to do things other than work on this site.
