This song is so good! Thanks for the recommendation Chris! Been listening to them all day long but this one is so far my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgCmFkPdufc

Glad I could help, as I’m now a fan of Maaya Sakamoto. :)

I love Raven too. Here are a couple (if you haven’t got to them yet) that have similar slow/acoustic starts that ramp up a bit, also from Do as Infinity.

Tasogare, can’t really find on youtube.

Yeh, hindsight is always 20/20. It’s unfortunate as an Italy goal would have made for a more exciting finish.

I think Rihanna is the only universally known person in modern times (other than myself :P). Sir Garfield Sobers was famous if you were an old time cricket fan. For vacation, you can’t really go wrong with any of the islands in terms of scenery and relaxation (except maybe Trinidad).

Wow, no AKB posts yet, something is wrong! :P

I like Do as Infinity, their songs vary but usually it’s kind of alternative mixed with Japanese classical music, or something like that I don’t know.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that it was panic tactics. He had only made one actual sub prior (at half time), and it’s quite normal to make a change at 60 minutes, to get a fresh player in for the remaining time. Yes, he had no more subs after that, but he made a bold move to try and change the game, which needed changing.

I don’t think he (or anyone) could have foreseen that the substitute would pull a hamstring, after another player already gone off injured. How often do you see two players go off injured in a game? Think back to all the games you have watched. To be thinking “well, I shouldn’t sub anyone in because there is a 0.1% chance that another player will get injured” is poor, timid management IMO.

    @kanjiman
Yes, a lot of people would go insane at the slow pace (and confinement) of things if they were here for too long.

I agree, but that rule could potentially be abused and a player could feign injury if he’s on a yellow card or just playing badly.

Hehe, by “potentially” did you mean without a shadow of a doubt? :P

Yep I still live here. I can’t see myself living anywhere else, but I do like to travel.

Shame about the injuries, Italy were playing quite decently up until then, and had some good chances. Sucked the life out of the game a bit. Nice to see Torres get the golden boot though.

That was a pretty good game. Italy should have had like five goals, their finishing (outside of Balotelli) was horrendous.

Hopefully Spain will actually play on Sunday. Their game against Portugal was an absolute snoozefest until extra time. I’m fully expecting Balotelli to red card himself out (on purpose) on Sunday in some fashion. Taking off his shirt twice would be my bet.

I was hoping for England to win so I could see Germany rip them apart again. I’m part German so I choose to support them. They’re very entertaining!

Hehe, I was hoping they would get through to beat Germany for the ghost goal of 2010. :P

    Why is it not ならあない?

You’re understanding everything correctly, just that this is one of those things. Anything that ends in う goes to わ instead of あ。 So 習う ー> 習わない、買う ー> 買わない, 歌う ー> 歌わない etc. The same for past negative, 買わなかった、習わなかった。

I can’t tell you the reason why it is so, maybe someone else can help there. :)

England could have won that game if they had remembered how to pass the ball. That was horribly painful to watch from the middle of the second half (when I got home) to the end. Simple passes they couldn’t string together, my goodness.

I think a Portugal vs. Germany final would be the most interesting, Spain can be quite boring to watch at times when they’re just ball holding. Germany vs. Italy should be interesting at least.

And that’s what I’m so afraid of.

I think this is the crux of the matter right here. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid, but how you react to it makes a big difference. So what if you get there and get rejected? You might end up poor and destitute, or dead at the side of the road. All of that is irrelevant when it comes to your life’s dream. If you’re not pursuing that, then you’re not living.

I’m going to start to sound like a broken record if I post again, so I wish you luck. =)

    @Gigatron

I don’t think it’s fair to expect a Japanese company to hire someone who doesn’t have flawless Japanese. Even in the west, if I was running a company, why would I hire someone who can’t speak as well as the other 100′s of applicants? I’m swamped with applications, it’s so easy to sift out the non fluent people. It would be awesome if 90% of applicants were only semi fluent, then I can get rid of those applicants and bask in the glory of only having to look through the remaining 10%.

Businesses are not about giving favours. If you REALLY wanted to live in Japan you would get a degree, you would be studying hard to get fluent, and you would be doing whatever it took to GET YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR. Take up teaching, land in Japan, and see where you go from there.

    Gigatron:

And now, I’m SICK of depression, SICK of frustration, SICK of wondering if this dream is worth it or not. I realised that there’s no way I’m ever going to be happy unless I make this happen. I’m going to Japan, or I’m gonna die trying. So here I am, newly determined to make a go of this. This time for real. If I fail, then I fail, but it’ll be a far better class of failure than never having tried at all.

    Stop trying and just do.

    hey:

The thing I found the most weird is the police are driving around with their lights on, but don’t seem to be going anywhere, and are stopping at lights like they aren’t in a hurry. I’m not sure what the purpose behind the lights being on is then?

It’s to let people know the police are there. They are noticeable so people who require assistance can see them, and people who are looking to loot can see them too. It just increases the impression of the “police presence factor”.

Of course, this is just what I think, they might just be cruising for sushi donuts and like pretty lights.

I’d be more motivated to do vocab instead, but I don’t want to risk doing things “out of order” and then make things harder for myself in the long run…

You just need to get back on the horse. Hemming and hawing over the best way is not helping. You’re just spinning wheels. Do what’s motivating/interesting, not what’s “correct”. You’re doing nothing now, the “wrong” way is better than no way.

    TL;DR:

Are you learning Japanese the wrong way? Don’t sweat it. Just keep moving.
